Align your credentials to the right TN category
Insurance Account Manager roles can qualify under either the accountant or management consultant category depending on job duties. Match your degree field and job description to the category your employer's offer letter will support before you apply.
Target carriers over independent brokerages
Large insurance carriers like national property, casualty, and life companies have dedicated HR and legal teams familiar with TN visa sponsorship. Independent brokerages often lack that infrastructure, making the filing process slower and less predictable for you.
Request a detailed offer letter upfront
Your TN application lives or dies on the offer letter. Ask your employer to describe your duties in terms that map directly to specialty occupation language: client relationship management, risk analysis, and policy consultation rather than general sales or service language.
Search verified TN-sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Insurance Account Manager jobs by employers with active TN visa sponsorship history. This cuts the time you spend cold-applying to companies that haven't sponsored before and can't commit to the process.
Understand the Mexican consular appointment timeline
Mexican citizens need a consular visa appointment, which adds weeks to the process compared to Canadian border entry. Factor this into your offer negotiation: request a start date that gives you at least four to six weeks after the offer letter is finalized.
Prepare a credential evaluation if your degree is from Mexico
U.S. consular officers and border agents assess foreign credentials on the spot. Get a credential evaluation from a recognized evaluator before your appointment so your Mexican university degree is already mapped to its U.S. equivalent in writing.
Insurance Account Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Insurance Account Manager role qualify for a TN visa?
It can, but the qualification depends on how the role is defined. TN visa categories under USMCA don't list insurance account manager explicitly. Most successful petitions classify the role under accountant or management consultant, requiring a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and duties that go beyond general sales into analysis, risk assessment, or client strategy.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for this role?
The TN visa has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can apply any time a qualifying job offer is in hand. H-1B visa requires winning a random lottery and waiting up to a year before starting work. For Canadian professionals with an Insurance Account Manager offer, TN is almost always the faster and more reliable path. Mexican citizens face a separate TN cap but still avoid the H-1B lottery.
What documents does my employer need to provide for a TN application?
Your employer must provide a signed offer letter on company letterhead that describes your job title, duties, intended start date, and confirms the position requires a bachelor's degree. The letter should connect your role to a recognized TN category. You supply your degree credential, transcripts, and passport. Canadian citizens present these at a port of entry; Mexican citizens submit them at a consular appointment.
How can I find Insurance Account Manager jobs that sponsor TN visas?
Migrate Mate lets you search Insurance Account Manager roles filtered by employers with TN visa sponsorship history, so you're not guessing which companies have gone through the process before. Targeting employers with demonstrated sponsorship experience reduces back-and-forth and speeds up your start date significantly.
Can I switch employers while on a TN visa in this role?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to your current employer and job offer. If you accept a new Insurance Account Manager position, your new employer must support a fresh TN application before you begin work. Canadian citizens can file at the border with the new offer letter. Mexican citizens need a new consular appointment. There is no employer portability under TN the way there is under H-1B.
