Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an IT Project Manager
Frame your credentials around management consulting
TN status for IT Project Managers is granted under the Management Consultant category, not a standalone IT classification. Your resume and any credential documents should explicitly connect your role to organizational consulting functions, not just technical delivery.
Request a support letter before accepting any offer
Your employer must provide a detailed support letter describing your duties, consulting relationship, and qualifications before you cross the border or attend a consular appointment. Vague letters are the most common reason CBP denies TN entry for this role.
Target employers with dedicated immigration HR contacts
Larger tech firms, consulting houses, and enterprise software companies typically have in-house immigration teams familiar with TN documentation. Ask during the offer stage whether the company has handled TN status before, specifically for project management roles.
Search TN-specific job listings using Migrate Mate
General job boards don't filter for TN visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces IT Project Manager roles at employers already open to TN candidates, so you're not cold-applying to companies that will stall on visa paperwork.
Verify your degree field maps to the TN category
CBP officers check that your degree aligns with the consulting or management function described in the support letter. A computer science or business degree typically satisfies this, but an unrelated field may require additional documentation showing equivalency.
Plan your Mexican consular appointment around processing timelines
Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate rather than at the port of entry. Consular appointment availability varies by city and season, so align your offer acceptance and start date with realistic scheduling windows, not the date your employer wants you to begin.

Find IT Project Manager JobsIT Project Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the IT Project Manager role actually qualify for TN status?
Yes, but the classification depends on how the role is documented, not just the job title. TN status for this position falls under the Management Consultant category. The employer's support letter must describe duties that involve providing advisory or consulting services to the organization, not purely internal operational management. CBP officers evaluate the letter, not the job title.
How does TN compare to H-1B for IT Project Manager positions?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, which means you can pursue roles year-round without waiting for an April registration window. H-1B requires employer sponsorship through a lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate. TN status is also faster to obtain for Canadians, who can receive approval at the port of entry the same day. The tradeoff is that TN does not lead directly to a green card the way H-1B can.
Where can I find IT Project Manager jobs that explicitly offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists IT Project Manager positions at employers who have already indicated openness to TN visa candidates. Most general job boards don't surface visa sponsorship status, so you end up filtering manually or discovering late in the process that a company won't support TN. Starting with a TN-focused search saves significant time.
Can I switch employers while on TN status as an IT Project Manager?
Yes, but you need new TN authorization tied to the new employer before you start working. Canadian citizens can obtain this at a port of entry with a new support letter from the incoming employer. Mexican citizens need a new consular appointment. You cannot simply transfer TN status the way H-1B portability works under AC21. Plan for a gap between offer acceptance and your actual start date.
What documentation do I need from my employer to enter on TN status?
You need a support letter on company letterhead that details your job title, the consulting nature of your duties, your qualifications, your proposed start date, and your salary. For Canadian citizens, this letter plus your credential documents go directly to CBP at the port of entry. For Mexican citizens, these documents accompany your DS-160 application for the consular appointment. Missing or vague letters are the leading cause of TN denial for this role.
