Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Production Machinist
Document your machining credentials precisely
TN classification for Production Machinists hinges on demonstrating a qualifying credential. Gather your trade certificates, apprenticeship completion records, or technical diplomas before applying. Canadian Red Seal certification strengthens your case significantly.
Target manufacturers with prior TN hiring history
Aerospace, automotive, and medical device manufacturers regularly sponsor TN visas for machinists. Search employer visa filing records to identify companies experienced with work visa sponsorship who have hired for industrial or precision machining roles in recent years.
Verify your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
Not every machinist posting qualifies under TN rules. The position must require specialized knowledge tied to your credential. Roles combining CNC programming with setup and quality inspection are more defensible than general production floor positions.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN sponsorship jobs
Searching for machinist roles open to TN visa holders without filtering by sponsorship wastes time. Migrate Mate surfaces Production Machinist jobs where employers have indicated TN visa sponsorship, so you apply to roles already matched to your status.
Prepare a support letter covering your specific duties
Your employer's TN support letter must describe your day-to-day duties in enough detail to show the role requires your credential. Generic job descriptions get pushed back at the port of entry. Ask the hiring manager to specify machine types, tolerances, and materials you'll work with.
Understand Mexican nationals face a separate consular step
Canadian citizens can obtain TN approval at the port of entry on the same day. Mexican nationals must schedule a consular interview, which adds weeks to your timeline. Build that into your start date negotiation with the employer before signing an offer.

Find Production Machinist JobsProduction Machinist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Production Machinist role qualify for TN visa status?
Production Machinist is not a listed USMCA occupation by that exact title, so qualification depends on how the role is framed. If the position requires specialized technical knowledge tied to a post-secondary credential in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field, it can qualify. Roles that combine CNC operation, precision measurement, and process engineering are consistently stronger candidates than general machine operator positions.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for machinists?
TN visa sponsorship is faster and far more predictable for Canadian and Mexican machinists than H-1B. There is no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and Canadians can receive approval at the port of entry on the day they apply. H-1B requires a March lottery, a months-long USCIS adjudication, and an October 1 start date. For a skilled machinist with a job offer in hand, TN is almost always the practical first choice.
What credentials do I need for a TN visa as a machinist?
USCIS and CBP look for a post-secondary credential directly related to the machining role. Canadian Red Seal certification, a diploma in precision machining or manufacturing technology, or a relevant provincial trade certificate all support a TN application. Work experience alone is rarely sufficient without a supporting credential. Your employer's support letter should explicitly connect your credential to the duties of the specific position being offered.
How do I find Production Machinist jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most standard job listings don't specify TN visa sponsorship separately from general work authorization. Migrate Mate filters Production Machinist roles by TN visa sponsorship availability, so you can focus your search on employers already open to hiring Canadian and Mexican professionals under USMCA. This saves significant time compared to reaching out to employers who aren't set up to support TN filings.
Can I switch employers on a TN visa as a machinist?
Yes, but you need a new TN authorization before starting with the new employer. TN status is employer-specific. Canadians can apply at the port of entry with the new employer's support letter and job offer on the same day they leave their previous job. Mexican nationals need to schedule a new consular appointment. There is no grace period that authorizes you to work for the new employer while the new TN is pending.
