Company Description
It started with a simple idea: what if surgery could be less invasive and recovery less painful? Nearly 30 years later, that question still fuels everything we do at Intuitive. As a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care, our technologies—like the da Vinci surgical system and Ion—have transformed how care is delivered for millions of patients worldwide.
We’re a team of engineers, clinicians, and innovators united by one purpose: to make surgery smarter, safer, and more human. Every day, our work helps care teams perform with greater precision and patients recover faster, improving outcomes around the world.
The problems we solve demand creativity, rigor, and collaboration. The work is challenging, but deeply meaningful—because every improvement we make has the potential to change a life.
If you’re ready to contribute to something bigger than yourself and help transform the future of healthcare, you’ll find your purpose here.

Additional Information
Due to the nature of our business and the role, please note that Intuitive and/or your customer(s) may require that you show current proof of vaccination against certain diseases including COVID-19. Details can vary by role.
Intuitive is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We provide equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants and employees, and prohibit discrimination and harassment of any type, without regard to race, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, color, age, religion, protected veteran or disability status, genetic information or any other status protected under federal, state, or local applicable laws.
U.S. Export Controls Disclaimer: In accordance with the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (15 CFR §743.13(b)), some roles at Intuitive Surgical may be subject to U.S. export controls for prospective employees who are nationals from countries currently on embargo or sanctions status.
Certain information you provide as part of the application will be used for purposes of determining whether Intuitive Surgical will need to (i) obtain an export license from the U.S. Government on your behalf (note: the government’s licensing process can take 3 to 6+ months) or (ii) implement a Technology Control Plan (“TCP”) (note: typically adds 2 weeks to the hiring process).
For any Intuitive role subject to export controls, final offers are contingent upon obtaining an approved export license and/or an executed TCP prior to the prospective employee’s start date, which may or may not be flexible, and within a timeframe that does not unreasonably impede the hiring need. If applicable, candidates will be notified and instructed on any requirements for these purposes.
We will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records in accordance with fair chance laws.
Preference will be given to qualified candidates who do not reside, or plan to reside, in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, or Tennessee.
This position may be filled at a different job level than listed here depending on business need and/or on the selected candidate’s experience, knowledge and skills. Compensation will be based primarily on the job level at which the role is filled and the candidate’s qualifications, consistent with applicable law.
We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target compensation ranges are listed.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Mechanical Design Engineer
Align your credentials to USMCA categories
TN status for engineers requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. A degree in mechatronics or industrial engineering can qualify, but prepare a one-page credential summary that maps your specific degree to the mechanical engineer category before applying.
Target manufacturers with cross-border supply chains
Automotive OEMs, aerospace primes, and industrial equipment manufacturers routinely sponsor TN engineers because they already operate in Canada and Mexico. Filtering your search by sector narrows you to employers familiar with the USMCA filing process, which shortens the offer-to-start timeline.
Request a support letter before your border appointment
Canadian applicants applying at the port of entry need an employer support letter that names your role, confirms the mechanical engineer TN category, and states your salary and start date. A vague or incomplete letter is the most common reason CBP officers request additional documentation.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsorship-ready employers
Migrate Mate surfaces Mechanical Design Engineer roles at employers with recent visa filings, demonstrating experience with work visa sponsorship. Search by role and location to reach hiring managers familiar with visa processes, cutting the time you spend explaining sponsorship requirements from scratch.
Verify employer E-Verify enrollment before accepting
Some federal contractors require E-Verify participation as a condition of employment. Confirm your prospective employer's enrollment status through the E-Verify employer search tool before signing an offer, since non-enrolled employers on covered contracts can create compliance issues that delay your start date.
Prepare for TN renewal before your status expires
TN status is granted in three-year increments with no cap on renewals, but your employer must prepare a new support letter for each renewal cycle. Starting the renewal process 90 days before expiration prevents authorization gaps and ensures your employer has adequate time to gather required documentation and schedule your port of entry appointment.

Find Mechanical Design Engineer JobsMechanical Design Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Mechanical Design Engineer qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Mechanical Design Engineers qualify under the USMCA engineer category, which covers roles requiring theoretical and practical application of engineering principles. Your job offer must clearly describe duties tied to mechanical engineering, and your degree must be in mechanical engineering or a sufficiently related discipline. Roles blending mechanical and software functions can qualify if the primary duties are mechanical in nature.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for this role?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start within days of a CBP approval at the border rather than waiting up to a year for an H-1B slot. Mexican citizens face a consulate process and an annual allocation, but still avoid the H-1B lottery entirely. The tradeoff is that TN does not confer dual intent, so green card pursuit requires separate planning.
What documents does a Mechanical Design Engineer need for TN entry?
At minimum you need a valid passport, an employer support letter specifying the TN engineer category and your role, and proof of your engineering degree such as original transcripts or a diploma. If your degree is from a non-English institution, bring a certified translation. CBP may also ask for a copy of your job offer letter or a description of the products or systems you will design.
Where can I find Mechanical Design Engineer jobs with TN sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for USMCA professionals and filters Mechanical Design Engineer postings to employers with active TN visa sponsorship history. Searching by role and location on Migrate Mate connects you directly to hiring managers who already know what a TN support letter requires, which reduces the back-and-forth common on general job platforms.
Can I switch employers on TN status as a Mechanical Design Engineer?
Yes, but your TN authorization is tied to your current employer. Before your last day, you need a new support letter from the incoming employer and must obtain fresh TN status, either at a port of entry as a Canadian or through a consular appointment as a Mexican national. Working even one day for the new employer before receiving TN approval creates a status violation, so sequencing matters.
