Kimley-Horn's Woodstock, Georgia (GA) office is seeking a Structural Engineer (EIT) with 3+ years of experience to join our Power Delivery team. This position will support the structural design and analysis of electric utility substation structures and foundation systems for a variety of power delivery projects. This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities:
- Support the structural design and analysis of new and existing substation structures and foundations, including steel support structures, equipment foundations, drilled piers, spread footings, slabs, and other structural systems associated with electric utility substations.
- Prepare structural calculations, drawings, details, specifications, and design documentation for substation projects.
- Apply structural engineering principles and applicable industry codes and standards to the design of steel structures, reinforced concrete foundations, and related substation infrastructure.
- Utilize structural engineering software to perform analysis and design of substation structures and foundation systems.
- Coordinate with electrical, civil, and other engineering disciplines to develop integrated and constructible substation designs.
- Assist with review of shop drawings, vendor information, construction questions, and RFIs as experience develops.
- As a critical member of the team, perform a variety of engineering tasks while receiving both on-the-job and formal training, mentorship, and exposure to Power Delivery project design, plan production, project financials, and client interactions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of structural engineering experience with an engineering consulting or design firm.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree from an ABET-accredited university in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with an emphasis in structures.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) certification, or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Experience with structural analysis and design of steel and/or reinforced concrete structures and foundations.
- Experience utilizing structural engineering analysis and design software. Experience with programs such as STAAD, RISA3D, SAP2000, Mathcad, LPILE, or similar tools is beneficial.
- Familiarity with structural design codes and standards such as ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, and IBC is beneficial.
- Previous experience with electric utility, substation, transmission, power generation, or industrial structural projects is preferred but not required.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
