Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Biomedical Engineer
Align your credentials to TN definitions
TN eligibility for Biomedical Engineers requires a degree in engineering or a related biological science. If your degree is in biomedical technology or a hybrid discipline, document how it maps to the engineering specialty your job duties require before approaching employers.
Clarify TN scope in the offer letter
Your employer's offer letter must describe your duties in engineering terms, not clinical or technician language. Roles described as 'biomedical technician' or 'medical equipment repair' may not satisfy the specialty occupation standard CBP applies at entry.
Search for sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find Biomedical Engineer roles from employers actively offering TN visa sponsorship. Filtering by sponsorship status saves time by removing postings where the employer hasn't confirmed they'll support TN applicants.
Prepare for CBP review of your engineering duties
Canadian citizens applying at the port of entry should bring their diploma, transcripts, and a detailed offer letter. CBP officers assess TN eligibility on the spot, so a vague job description or mismatched degree field can result in a same-day denial.
Understand the Mexican TN consular process differs
Mexican nationals apply for TN status through a U.S. consulate, not at the border. Scheduling a consular appointment early matters because wait times vary significantly by location, and the TN allocation for Mexican citizens is capped annually under USMCA.

Find Biomedical Engineer JobsBiomedical Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Biomedical Engineer job title qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Biomedical Engineer is a recognized TN visa occupation under USMCA. You need a degree in engineering or a closely related biological science, a U.S. employer job offer, and duties that fall within engineering practice. Roles classified as technician-level work or equipment maintenance typically don't meet the TN standard, so job title and described duties both matter.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Biomedical Engineers?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, which means you can start work as soon as CBP approves your application at the port of entry. H-1B requires entering a randomized lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate and a months-long wait. For Biomedical Engineers who qualify under USMCA, TN is a faster and more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Can I switch Biomedical Engineer employers while on TN status?
You can change employers, but TN status is employer-specific. Your new employer must support a fresh TN application before you begin working for them. Canadian citizens can process this at the port of entry; Mexican nationals need a new consular appointment. There's no grace period built into TN status for job transitions the way there is for H-1B holders.
Where can I find Biomedical Engineer jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter for Biomedical Engineer roles from employers who have confirmed they'll support TN visa sponsorship, so you're not wasting time applying to positions where the hiring team has never dealt with USMCA visa categories. Standard job boards don't filter by TN sponsorship status.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a detailed support letter that states your job title, a description of your engineering duties, your start date, your salary, and confirmation that the position is temporary in nature. The letter must connect your role to the USMCA Biomedical Engineer category. USCIS or CBP may also request your employment contract, transcripts, and professional license if your state requires one for engineering practice.
