Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Structural Project Engineer
Align your credentials to U.S. standards
TN eligibility for engineers requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in engineering. Have your transcripts evaluated by a NACES-recognized credential evaluator before applying, especially if your degree title doesn't translate directly to 'engineering.'
Target firms with active federal or infrastructure projects
Structural engineering firms working on federally funded infrastructure, bridge, or high-rise projects typically have experience with work visa sponsorship. Their HR teams are already familiar with visa sponsorship processes, reducing back-and-forth during hiring and making the support letter preparation smoother.
Search TN-sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Structural Project Engineer roles by employers with documented TN visa sponsorship history. This cuts the time you'd otherwise spend cold-applying to firms unfamiliar with the process.
Draft a precise employer support letter
The TN offer letter must specify your job title, duties, start date, and that the role requires an engineering degree. Vague letters are the most common reason CBP officers ask follow-up questions at Canadian ports of entry.
Clarify your PE license status before the interview
Some U.S. employers require a Professional Engineer license as a condition of employment, not just TN eligibility. Confirm whether your Canadian P.Eng. or Mexican equivalent satisfies state-level PE licensure requirements for the specific role before accepting an offer.
Understand the difference between TN and project-based work
If your Structural Project Engineer role involves work at multiple client sites, your offer letter should reflect the employer's control over your duties. CBP scrutinizes arrangements that resemble independent contracting, which is not permitted under TN status.

Find Structural Project Engineer JobsStructural Project Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Structural Project Engineer qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Engineers are explicitly listed as a qualifying TN occupation under the USMCA treaty. Your degree must be in engineering or a directly related field, and your U.S. job duties must constitute engineering work. A civil or structural engineering degree from a Canadian or Mexican university generally satisfies this requirement after credential evaluation.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Structural Project Engineers?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and can be approved at the port of entry in a single day. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, entry into a randomized lottery, and USCIS adjudication that can take several months. For structural engineers with a qualifying degree and a concrete job offer, TN is faster and more predictable at every stage.
Where can I find Structural Project Engineer jobs that offer TN sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter roles by visa type, including TN, and see employers with documented sponsorship history for engineering positions. This avoids the common problem of spending weeks in a hiring process only to learn the employer won't support TN filing.
Can Mexican citizens apply for TN status as Structural Project Engineers?
Yes, but the process differs from Canada. Mexican nationals must apply at a U.S. consulate in Mexico and attend an in-person interview rather than applying at the border. Appointment wait times at consulates in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey vary. USCIS does not adjudicate TN applications for Mexican nationals at ports of entry the way it does for Canadians.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a support letter on company letterhead that states your job title, a description of engineering duties, the anticipated length of employment, your qualifications, and confirmation that the position requires an engineering degree. For Canadian applicants, you present this letter at the U.S. border or port of entry—no additional government filings are required. Mexican applicants submit the support letter as part of their application package at a U.S. consulate.
