About Voyant
Voyant Photonics, based in the heart of New York City, is transforming machine perception with a new class of LiDAR devices that are compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand and powerful enough to measure range, velocity, and reflectivity with unparalleled accuracy. By leveraging cutting-edge silicon photonic chips smaller than your fingertip, we deliver sensors that are not only revolutionary in performance but also affordable enough to integrate into any system. Our technology disrupts the status quo of bulky, expensive, and power-hungry LiDAR systems, making high-precision sensing accessible for widespread adoption in robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, industrial automation, and beyond.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Production Test Engineer to lead the development and implementation of scalable, high-throughput test infrastructure for end-of-line testing for our integrated LiDAR sensor. You will be responsible for engineering and developing robust test methodologies with the goal of mass production for our LiDAR units. This is a highly cross-functional role working closely with Systems, Photonics, Electrical, Firmware, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to ensure performance, yield, and reliability from prototype to volume production.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement end-of-line (EOL) test strategies for LiDAR sensors, validating system-level performance (range, velocity, reflectivity, etc.).
- Develop automated test fixtures and software to support both in-line and EOL testing in a production setting.
- Translate lab-level validation methods into robust and scalable production tests across optical, electrical, and mixed-signal domains.
- Partner with external contract manufacturers and test vendors to stand up and scale production test infrastructure; support factory bring-up and operator training.
- Drive test coverage, throughput, and cost optimization in both low- and medium-volume manufacturing.
- Lead root cause investigations for test failures across the stack and work cross-functionally to implement fixes.
- Own and continuously improve statistical process control (SPC), yield tracking, and test data analytics across the production lifecycle.
- Support reliability and environmental testing (e.g. thermal cycling, vibration, shock) for product qualification.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in production test engineering with a focus on LiDAR systems or optical sensors.
- Proven expertise in system-level testing for LiDAR, imaging, or other complex optical systems.
- Hands-on experience developing and deploying automated test setups (Python preferred), including test instrumentation and DAQ systems.
- Proven track record in statistical process control, yield analysis, and high-volume data-driven decision-making.
- Demonstrated experience owning test strategy and implementation in a manufacturing or pilot-line environment.
- Experience interfacing with contract manufacturers and external test vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with test and validation FMCW LiDAR or coherent optical systems.
- Exposure to MES systems, manufacturing analytics platforms, or test data infrastructure.
Benefits
- Competitive salary and meaningful equity package
- Comprehensive health benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision)
- Unlimited PTO and paid company holidays
- Team events and company meetups
- Hybrid or remote work environment with monthly travel for remote employees.
- Complimentary lunch provided daily at our NYC office

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Senior Test Development Engineer
Match your degree to the engineering category
TN eligibility for this role depends on your degree field, not just your job title. A degree in electrical, computer, or systems engineering maps cleanly to the USMCA Engineering category. Software or IT degrees may trigger additional scrutiny from a CBP officer.
Request an offer letter with specialty details
Ask your employer to specify your engineering duties, degree requirement, and that the role is a specialty occupation in the offer letter. Vague letters citing only job titles are a common reason CBP officers request clarification at the port of entry.
Filter employers with recent visa sponsorship experience
Target companies with recent visa sponsorship experience, particularly in hardware validation, semiconductor testing, or embedded systems. Use Migrate Mate to find employers actively hiring for TN-eligible engineering roles—companies experienced with work visa sponsorship are more likely to understand the streamlined TN process and move quickly through the port-of-entry presentation for Canadian applicants or consulate application for Mexican applicants.
Prepare Canadian credential documentation before crossing
Canadian citizens can get TN status at a land port of entry or preclearance airport on the day of travel. Bring your original degree certificate, transcripts, and offer letter. Border officers can't verify credentials later, so incomplete documentation means a same-day denial.
Clarify testing scope in your job description
Test Development Engineers who write firmware, design hardware test rigs, or develop automated validation frameworks fit the Engineering TN category more clearly than those in pure QA roles. Work with your employer to ensure your written job description reflects engineering-level responsibilities, not technician-level tasks.
Understand Mexican nationals apply at a consulate
Unlike Canadians, Mexican citizens must schedule a consulate appointment and cannot use a land port for TN admission. Processing timelines vary by consulate location, so factor appointment availability into your start date negotiation with the employer.

Find Senior Test Development Engineer JobsSenior Test Development Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Test Development Engineer role qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, provided your role involves engineering-level work and you hold a qualifying degree. The USMCA Engineering category covers roles in hardware validation, automated test development, and systems verification. CBP officers assess both your job duties and your credentials, so the offer letter and degree must align with recognized engineering disciplines, not general quality assurance functions.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for this role?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start as soon as an employer is ready to file. H-1B requires winning a lottery slot and waiting until October 1 of the fiscal year. For Senior Test Development Engineers with a qualifying degree and a U.S. job offer, TN is a faster and more predictable path than H-1B.
Where can I find employers who sponsor TN visas for test development engineering roles?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces U.S. employers actively hiring for TN-eligible engineering roles so you can focus on companies already familiar with the sponsorship process. Targeting employers with prior TN filing experience reduces the time spent explaining visa mechanics during negotiation.
Can a Mexican citizen get TN status for this role without a consulate appointment?
No. Mexican nationals must apply for TN status at a U.S. consulate abroad, unlike Canadian citizens who can seek admission directly at a port of entry. You'll need to schedule a nonimmigrant visa interview, submit your documentation including the offer letter and degree credentials, and wait for consular processing before you can begin work.
What happens if my test development role is categorized as IT rather than engineering by CBP?
CBP officers sometimes reclassify roles with heavy software components under a different USMCA category or decline admission if the duties seem closer to IT support than engineering. To reduce this risk, your offer letter should emphasize hardware test design, validation framework architecture, or systems-level engineering responsibilities. A degree in electrical or computer engineering strengthens your position significantly.
