Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Head Of Communications
Frame your credentials around PR specialist criteria
TN approval for communications leaders depends on establishing fit within the Public Relations Specialist category. Gather documentation showing your degree is in communications, journalism, or public relations, not a general business credential, before you apply.
Target employers with in-house communications teams
Companies with dedicated communications or corporate affairs departments are far more likely to sponsor TN visas than those relying on agencies. Look for organizations with VP- or C-suite-level communications functions, which signals internal capacity to support the filing.
Search TN-eligible roles at employers with visa experience
Use Migrate Mate to filter Head of Communications openings by employer visa sponsorship experience, so you spend time on roles where the employer has demonstrated familiarity with work visa processes, not chasing unverified listings.
Negotiate TN filing before signing your offer letter
Confirm the employer will prepare the TN support letter and bear filing costs before you accept. Some organizations default to attorney-managed processes that delay start dates by weeks if not addressed at the offer stage.
Prepare for CBP scrutiny on job duty overlap
Mexican professionals entering at a U.S. port of entry should carry a detailed job description distinguishing communications strategy from marketing or advertising functions, since CBP officers sometimes conflate these roles and request additional documentation.
Align your TN renewal timeline with contract cycles
TN status is granted in three-year increments with unlimited renewals. If your employment is project-based or tied to a fixed-term contract, ensure renewals are initiated well before the contract end date to avoid gaps in authorized status.

Find Head Of Communications JobsHead Of Communications TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Head of Communications role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, provided the role maps to the Public Relations Specialist category listed in the USMCA's TN occupation schedule. The position must involve communications strategy, media relations, or corporate affairs as primary duties. Roles that blend significantly into marketing, advertising, or general management functions can face additional scrutiny at the port of entry or from USCIS.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for this role?
The TN visa has no annual cap and no lottery for Canadian citizens, meaning you can pursue a Head of Communications role and start work without waiting for a selection round. H-1B requires lottery registration each April and a wait of months even after selection. For Mexican citizens, the TN has a separate annual allocation, but the process still avoids the H-1B lottery entirely.
Where can I find Head of Communications jobs that explicitly offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Head of Communications roles where employers have confirmed TN visa sponsorship, so you're not spending time applying to positions where sponsorship is unclear. Filtering by TN status at the start of your search significantly narrows the field to employers already prepared to file.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN application?
Your employer must produce a TN support letter on company letterhead that specifies your job title, duties, required qualifications, the professional category being claimed, and your anticipated length of employment. You'll also need to present your degree credentials. Canadian citizens can present these documents directly at a U.S. port of entry without consular processing.
Can I switch employers as a Head of Communications on TN status?
You can change employers, but your TN authorization is employer-specific. You cannot begin work with a new organization until either a new TN is approved at a port of entry or USCIS approves a change of employer petition. There is no grace period that allows you to work for a new employer while the application is pending, so timing the transition carefully with both employers is critical.
