Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Sports
Align your credentials to the job description
TN approval depends on a direct match between your degree field and the specific sports role. A kinesiology degree supports a strength coach position; a physical education degree supports an athletic trainer role. Mismatches are the most common denial trigger.
Target employers with active athlete support programs
Professional sports organizations, university athletic departments, and sports medicine clinics sponsor TN workers more consistently than general fitness businesses. Look for employers that already have HR infrastructure for international hires and immigration compliance teams.
Get your support letter written before accepting an offer
Your employer's support letter must describe the specialty occupation duties, your degree relevance, and employment terms. Canadians present this at the port of entry. Request a draft early so errors don't stall your start date.
Use Migrate Mate to find sports roles with TN sponsorship
Not every sports employer understands TN visa requirements or knows they can hire without an H-1B lottery. Migrate Mate filters for employers actively open to TN sponsorship, saving you from applying to roles where immigration support isn't available.
Confirm your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
TN visa eligibility requires the position to routinely require a relevant bachelor's degree. General coaching or fitness instruction roles often don't meet this bar. Athletic trainers, exercise physiologists, and sports psychologists with appropriate degrees typically qualify.
Mexican applicants should schedule consular appointments early
TN visas for Mexican citizens require a consular interview and are subject to an annual cap. Appointment wait times vary by consulate and season. Have your employer prepare a detailed support letter and file your DS-160 form as soon as they confirm the offer in writing.

Find Sports JobsSports TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which sports roles actually qualify for a TN visa?
The TN visa covers sports roles that require a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Athletic trainers with a kinesiology or athletic training degree, exercise physiologists, sports psychologists, and sports nutritionists typically qualify. General coaching, personal training, or fitness instruction roles without a degree requirement usually do not meet the specialty occupation standard.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for sports professionals?
The TN visa has no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and can be approved at the port of entry on the same day. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, involves a random lottery, and caps total issuances each fiscal year. For Canadian sports professionals with a qualifying degree, TN is significantly faster and more predictable than the H-1B process.
Can I change sports employers while on a TN visa?
Yes, but you need a new TN authorization for each employer. Your TN status is employer-specific, so if you leave one sports organization and join another, your new employer must provide a new support letter and you must obtain new TN status before starting work. Canadians can do this at any port of entry.
Where can I find sports employers who will sponsor a TN visa?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking TN visa sponsorship. It surfaces sports roles from employers who are already open to sponsoring TN workers, so you're not spending time on applications where immigration support isn't available. University athletic programs, professional sports organizations, and sports medicine clinics are the most consistent sponsors.
Does a Mexican national need to file anything with the U.S. government to apply for a sports TN visa?
No. The TN visa does not require any Department of Labor filing, unlike H-1B. Mexican nationals applying at a U.S. consulate need a valid job offer, a support letter from their employer outlining the specialty occupation duties, proof of their qualifying degree, and a completed DS-160 form. There is no government labor certification process involved with TN sponsorship.
