Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Test Engineering Manager
Align your credentials to the engineer category
TN classification for this role hinges on the engineer occupational category, not a management title. Make sure your degree is in engineering or computer science, and that your résumé frames leadership duties as extensions of core engineering work, not pure people management.
Target companies with recent visa filing histories
Employers with recent visa filings for engineering roles already understand visa sponsorship mechanics. Focusing your search on these companies shortens the offer-to-start timeline significantly and reduces the risk of an employer backing out over unfamiliarity with the sponsorship process. Since TN sponsorship involves straightforward employer support letter preparation and port-of-entry presentation (for Canadians) or consulate application (for Mexicans), companies experienced with work visa sponsorship generally adapt quickly to TN requirements.
Prepare a role-specific support letter before negotiations
The employer support letter must describe your engineering duties precisely, not just your managerial scope. CBP officers assess whether the role meets the engineer category definition, so ambiguous language about 'overseeing teams' without technical specificity is a common reason for TN refusals at the border.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified TN-sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify Test Engineering Manager openings at employers who have a documented history of TN visa sponsorship. This filters out postings where 'will consider sponsorship' is aspirational rather than operational, saving you weeks of back-and-forth with recruiters who aren't set up to file.
Book your consular appointment as soon as you have an offer
Mexican citizens must obtain TN status through a U.S. consulate, and appointment availability at Ciudad Juárez or Monterrey can run four to eight weeks out. Delaying the booking until after you've finalized paperwork often pushes your start date past what the employer planned for.

Find Test Engineering Manager JobsTest Engineering Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Test Engineering Manager role actually qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, provided the role is grounded in engineering work and your degree is in engineering or a closely related technical field. CBP classifies TN engineers by the nature of the duties, not the job title. A Test Engineering Manager who owns test architecture, defines quality frameworks, and leads technical execution across a product pipeline fits the engineer category. A role that is predominantly HR or budget management without a technical core is harder to support.
How does TN compare to H-1B for a Test Engineering Manager position?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start working weeks after receiving a job offer rather than waiting up to a year for an H-1B slot. The trade-off is that TN is nonimmigrant in intent, meaning it doesn't directly support a green card pathway the way H-1B dual intent does. For professionals who want to begin working quickly without betting on lottery odds, TN is typically the faster path for this role.
What documents does my employer need to provide for TN sponsorship in this role?
Your employer must supply a support letter on company letterhead that specifies your engineering job duties, your qualifications, the professional category being claimed, the employment duration, and your salary. For a Test Engineering Manager, the letter should describe the technical scope of the role explicitly, including test strategy ownership, toolchain decisions, or quality system design, so CBP can confirm the engineer category applies.
Where can I find Test Engineering Manager jobs that already support TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically to surface jobs at employers with recent visa filings and experience sponsoring work visas. Filtering by this role on Migrate Mate shows you openings where the employer has already navigated visa sponsorship processes, which matters because an employer unfamiliar with work visa requirements for engineering managers can slow your start date or withdraw an offer when they realize the documentation requirements for TN status.
Can I switch employers while on TN status as a Test Engineering Manager?
Yes. TN status is employer-specific, so changing employers requires your new employer to support a fresh TN application before you begin work. Canadians can process the new TN at a port of entry in a single trip. Mexican citizens need to apply at a consulate. There is no grace period that allows you to work for the new employer before the new TN is approved, so plan your transition timeline accordingly.
