About the Role

MiniMed is looking for a Sr Principal Tool Engineer.

This person will provide technical leadership for the development and procurement of molding and tooling for NPI in the Plastics Value Stream in the Medtronic Diabetes Business OU. This position is being created to develop and support the sourcing and development of our supplier base to support NPI, quality, delivery and cost requirements of the business unit. This is a critical position with a critical commodity upon which the entire plastic platform is based. This position is also responsible for developing 2 to 5 year tooling plan and to reduce complexity of the supply chain.

This individual will engage with cross functional teams in Diabetes like R&D, Mfg, Quality and Regulatory to ensure that the components, sub-assemblies, and contract manufactured items are manufactured and delivered by Vendors with required level of quality. This position will work directly with vendors to develop and improve their processes that support the delivery of the plastics to support the business demands. Through subject matter expertise and previous experience working with vendors, the Sr. Program Manager will ensure that the vendors are manufacturing the plastics to a high capability and quality level. Partnering closely with Medtronic Diabetes’ supply chain, supplier quality and other key functional groups, this individual will work to identify ramp, improvement and efficiency efforts required at the vendor and then execute those efforts effectively to meet the quality and ramp demand numbers. In addition, this individual will also be responsible for working with R&D for future plastic requirements and also support front end technology development followed by vendor selection for the next generation plastics.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

• Designs, develops and implements industrial machinery and equipment, tools, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, prototype model production and machine attachments required for production or experimental use, considering such factors as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements.
May use CAD/CAM to design tools.

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM: An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

• Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
