Who's Hiring

Transportation Engineer Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a transportation engineer job in Boston?
The strongest path in Boston is targeting the agencies and consultancies that drive most local hiring: the MBTA, MassDOT, and the engineering firms clustered in the Seaport District and Back Bay. Candidates with experience in transit systems, traffic modeling, or multimodal planning have an edge here. Familiarity with Boston's complex roadway network and active-transportation priorities also stands out to hiring managers in this market.
Which companies hire transportation engineers in Boston?
Companies currently hiring transportation engineers in Boston include Bowman, H&H, and AECOM, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Boston's market is anchored by a mix of regional transit authorities, large infrastructure consultancies, and city and state planning agencies, all of which hire across project and staff levels.
Are there remote transportation engineer jobs in Boston?
Yes, but selectively: transportation engineering is field- and site-intensive by nature, so fully remote roles are rare compared to purely analytical disciplines. About 50% of transportation engineer openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common in planning, traffic modeling, and data analysis roles where field presence is less frequent.
How can I get a transportation engineer job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Boston is landing a junior role at one of the regional engineering consultancies or a staff engineer position with the MBTA or MassDOT. Internship programs at these agencies and firms give early-career candidates direct exposure to Boston's transit and roadway infrastructure. Entry-level titles like transportation planner, traffic analyst, or design engineer assistant open the door, and project experience on Boston-area infrastructure work strengthens any application considerably.
