Entry Level Underwriting Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level underwriting specialist job?
Entry level underwriting specialist roles typically look for candidates with a degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field, though some employers accept strong internship experience or coursework in lieu of a degree. Familiarity with risk assessment concepts, attention to detail, and proficiency with spreadsheets or data tools give candidates an edge. Highlighting any internship, academic project, or shadowing experience in insurance or financial services strengthens an application at this stage.
Which companies hire entry level underwriting specialists?
Companies hiring entry level underwriting specialists right now include Travelers, Berkadia, and KeyBank, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of large national insurers, regional carriers, and financial services firms that run structured training programs for junior candidates.
Are there remote entry level underwriting specialist jobs?
Yes, though most entry level underwriting specialist roles still favor on-site or hybrid arrangements. About 32% of entry level underwriting specialist openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so candidates who prefer flexibility have real options while fully remote positions remain less common at this experience level.
Are these new grad underwriting specialist jobs?
Yes, the listings here include new grad, recent graduate, and junior underwriting specialist roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internships or co-op work in place of full-time history, or specifically invites candidates with a relevant degree and a portfolio of academic or project-based work rather than requiring an established professional record.
Which industries hire the most entry level underwriting specialists?
Entry Level underwriting specialist roles concentrate in Insurance, Banking & Financial Services, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at this level because they rely on ongoing risk evaluation, policy pricing, and portfolio management work that is well suited to structured training programs for junior candidates.
