Hinge is the dating app designed to be deleted
In today's digital world, finding genuine relationships is tougher than ever. At Hinge, we’re on a mission to inspire intimate connection to create a less lonely world. We’re obsessed with understanding our users’ behaviors to help them find love, and our success is defined by one simple metric– setting up great dates. With millions of users across the globe, we’ve become the most trusted way to find a relationship, for all.
About the Role
We are hiring a Director of UX Research to lead research across our Dating Outcomes and Platform product areas. You will set the vision and strategy for how research informs product decisions across the core product experience at Hinge, focusing on some of Hinge's most complex research questions – understanding what's getting in the way of people forming real connections, and what Hinge needs to become to fundamentally shift how dating works online. The work is ambitious, high-stakes, and directly shapes how Hinge invests.
This is a senior leadership role with significant scope: you'll manage a team of researchers, own the research strategy and roadmap for Dating Outcomes and Platform, and operate as a strategic partner to group-level product, design, data science, and engineering leadership. This is an ideal role for a proven research leader who synthesizes user insights and data science findings into clear product strategy, builds the organizational conditions for teams to execute well, and thrives on ambiguous, high-impact problems.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the UX research vision, strategy, and roadmap for Dating Outcomes and Platform — prioritizing the questions that need to be answered before roadmaps are locked
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of seasoned, experienced researchers, setting a high bar for craft, rigor, and impact
- Operate as a strategic partner through synthesizing UXR and DS insights into POVs that shape product vision and strategy and inform executive decisions
- Represent Dating Outcomes and Platform insights clearly to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, communicating roadmaps, tradeoffs, and product implications
- Drive cross-team synthesis and frameworks that unify insights across teams and product groups
- Identify structural and organizational gaps; proactively design ways of working that improve team velocity, cross-functional collaboration, and research quality
- Build a team culture grounded in curiosity, rigor, deep user empathy – and fun!
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of UX research experience, with 4+ years managing and developing researchers across multiple levels
- Proven track record of leading research across complex, multi-team consumer product portfolios with clear examples of research directly shaping product strategy and measurable outcomes
- Deep expertise across qualitative and quantitative research methods — able to set the methodological bar across a team, partner fluently with Data Science, and integrate quant and qual into a unified research strategy
- Ability to operate at both the strategic and craft level — setting research vision while holding a high bar for rigor and execution across the team
- Experience managing and mentoring highly senior ICs — able to establish clear roles and responsibilities, protect independent scope, and support researchers who are deeply embedded in product strategy and operating at a level that may match or exceed their manager's domain depth
- Demonstrated ability to do the organizational glue work: identifying when teams aren't functioning well, diagnosing root causes, and driving the interventions to fix it
- Confident, clear communicator who can represent research strategy at VP-level forums, influence without authority across product, engineering, design, and data, and present complex tradeoffs accessibly
- Passion for innovation and exploring how emerging technologies, including generative AI, can elevate the craft and impact of research
- Passion for Hinge's mission of helping people build meaningful relationships
Compensation
- Salary Range: $235,000 - $287,000 a year

UX Researcher Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ux researcher in New York?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a ux researcher in New York. Most employers expect a bachelor's or master's degree in human-computer interaction, cognitive psychology, information science, or a closely related field, combined with a portfolio of research projects. New York City's concentration of tech companies, financial institutions, and healthcare systems means that graduate programs at schools like NYU, Columbia, and Pratt regularly place graduates directly into research roles.
Which companies hire ux researchers in New York?
Employers hiring ux researchers in New York right now include Google, Etsy, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of financial services firms, large media companies, and enterprise technology organizations means research roles here tend to focus on complex, high-stakes digital products.
Which New York cities have the most ux researcher jobs?
The cities with the most ux researcher openings in New York are New York and Brooklyn. New York City dominates because it is home to the headquarters and major offices of tech, finance, and media companies that run dedicated research teams, while smaller markets reflect demand from healthcare systems, state agencies, and regional employers with growing digital product practices.
Are there remote ux researcher jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 9% of ux researcher openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work, including interviews, synthesis, and stakeholder presentations, translates well to distributed teams. Discovery research and survey-based work tend to be the most fully remote, while in-person usability lab sessions and stakeholder workshops are more likely to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a ux researcher in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate researcher role at a mid-size New York tech company or agency, where teams are small enough to give newcomers hands-on project work. Large employers like IBM and Publicis Sapient run internship and rotational programs that hire candidates without professional experience. Adjacent roles in customer insights, data analysis, or UX writing at New York media and financial firms also serve as common lateral entry points. A strong portfolio of academic or self-directed projects is the credential that matters most in the absence of full-time experience.
Where can I find and apply to ux researcher jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to ux researcher jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find roles that fit your experience and target location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
