Videographer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a videographer in New York?
Videography is not a state-licensed profession in New York, so there is no required exam or registration board. Most employers expect a portfolio of completed work and a degree or certificate in film production, digital media, or a related field from a New York institution such as NYU Tisch, the School of Visual Arts, or SUNY Purchase. Entry-level candidates who build strong reels through student productions, internships, or freelance local projects move into staff roles faster than those without demonstrated work.
How much do videographers make in New York?
Videographers in New York earn a median of about $93,410 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $56,710 for the lowest 10% to over $133,410 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire videographers in New York?
Employers hiring videographers in New York right now include Nexstar Media Group, Amazon, and The New York Times, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of media companies, advertising agencies, and corporate headquarters means consistent demand across both full-time staff and project-based contract roles.
Which New York cities have the most videographer jobs?
New York, Rochester, and Albany have the most videographer openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its density of television networks, advertising agencies, film studios, and corporate headquarters that maintain in-house content teams, while Buffalo and Albany generate steady demand through regional news organizations, university media departments, and state government communications offices.
Are there remote videographer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 9% of videographer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that most production work requires physical presence on set, at events, or on location. The parts of the role most suited to remote work are post-production tasks like editing, color correction, and motion graphics, which some New York employers allow off-site once footage is captured.
How can I get hired as a videographer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a production assistant or junior editor role at a New York media company or agency, where you work alongside experienced videographers on live projects. Large New York employers like local television stations and advertising agencies regularly bring on entry-level candidates through internship-to-hire pipelines. Building a reel through student films, nonprofit video work, or freelance event coverage in New York City gives candidates a concrete portfolio edge, and a certificate from a recognized New York program strengthens an otherwise thin resume.
Where can I find and apply to videographer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to videographer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
