Which companies sponsor visas for project architects in Arizona?
Phoenix-based firms with consistent sponsorship histories include DLR Group, Gensler, SmithGroup, and Leo A Daly, all of which have filed H-1B Labor Condition Applications for architectural roles. Larger national firms with Arizona offices, such as HOK and Stantec, also sponsor international project architects. Corporate real estate developers and healthcare systems with in-house design departments are additional sources of sponsorship in the state.
Which visa types are most common for project architect roles in Arizona?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for project architects in Arizona, as architecture consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a directly related bachelor's degree or higher. The O-1A is an option for architects with documented awards, significant publications, or leadership on major projects. Canadian and Mexican nationals may also qualify under the TN visa category, which lists architecture as an eligible profession under the USMCA agreement.
Which cities in Arizona have the most project architect sponsorship jobs?
Phoenix and Scottsdale account for the large majority of project architect sponsorship opportunities in Arizona, driven by a high concentration of architecture and engineering firms serving the region's ongoing commercial, healthcare, and civic construction pipeline. Tempe, home to Arizona State University's design programs, also attracts firms that hire international talent. Tucson has a smaller but active market, particularly for public sector and university-affiliated architectural projects.
How to find project architect visa sponsorship jobs in Arizona?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility, making it easier to identify project architect roles at Arizona firms already open to sponsoring international candidates. Rather than sorting through general postings, you can search by role and state to surface opportunities at Phoenix and Scottsdale studios where sponsorship is confirmed. Migrate Mate also provides context on which employers have a track record of filing H-1B petitions for design and architecture positions.
What should internationally trained project architects know about working in Arizona?
Arizona requires project architects to hold a valid license from the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration to independently stamp drawings, though you can work under a licensed architect while pursuing licensure. Employers sponsoring H-1B visas for this role must pay the DOL-determined prevailing wage for the Phoenix or Tucson metropolitan area, which reflects local market rates. Arizona State University and the University of Arizona produce a steady pipeline of architecture graduates, so sponsored candidates often benefit from demonstrating specialized experience or expertise that complements local talent.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project architect jobs in Arizona?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
