Which companies sponsor visas for project architects in Washington?
Several large and mid-size architecture firms based in Washington have established H-1B visa sponsorship histories, including NBBJ, LMN Architects, Perkins&Will, and ZGF Architects. Large general contractors and design-build firms active in Seattle's commercial and residential development market also sponsor project architects. Checking a firm's prior LCA filings with the Department of Labor is the most reliable way to confirm sponsorship history.
Which visa types are most common for project architect roles in Washington?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for project architects in Washington, as the role typically meets the specialty occupation standard given its degree and licensure requirements. Some Canadian and Mexican nationals working in architecture may qualify for TN visas. Architects with extraordinary ability or national recognition may explore the O-1A, though that pathway has a higher evidentiary bar.
Which cities in Washington have the most project architect sponsorship jobs?
Seattle accounts for the majority of project architect sponsorship activity in Washington, driven by sustained commercial, mixed-use, and transit-oriented development. Bellevue has grown significantly as tech campuses and high-rise residential projects have expanded across the Eastside. Redmond and Kirkland also see periodic demand, particularly tied to corporate campus work for major technology employers headquartered in those cities.
How to find project architect visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse project architect roles in Washington without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can search by state and role to surface firms actively hiring international candidates. Focusing your search on Seattle and Bellevue-based firms will give you the deepest pool of relevant openings.
Are there any state-specific considerations for project architects seeking sponsorship in Washington?
Washington requires project architects to hold or be pursuing NCARB-recognized licensure, which employers factor into sponsorship decisions alongside immigration eligibility. The Department of Labor's prevailing wage determinations for architecture roles in the Seattle-Bellevue metropolitan area reflect the region's high cost of living, so sponsored positions must meet those wage thresholds. Firms tied to public projects may also have additional procurement and compliance considerations that affect their sponsorship processes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project architect jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
