Which companies sponsor visas for project architects in Oregon?
Portland-based firms are the primary sponsors, including ZGF Architects, SERA Architects, Mithun, and BOORA Architects. Larger national firms with Oregon offices, such as HOK and Gensler, also have established H-1B visa sponsorship histories. Public-sector employers like Oregon Health and Science University and Portland State University occasionally sponsor project architects for campus infrastructure roles.
Which visa types are most common for project architect roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa for project architects in Oregon, as architecture qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. The O-1A is an option for architects with exceptional recognition, such as major design awards or published work. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA, which covers engineers and certain design professionals.
Which cities in Oregon have the most project architect sponsorship jobs?
Portland accounts for the large majority of project architect sponsorship activity in Oregon, driven by its concentration of mid-to-large architecture and planning firms. Eugene has a secondary market connected to University of Oregon expansion projects and local civic work. Bend is an emerging market as resort, hospitality, and residential development continues to grow in Central Oregon.
How to find project architect visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have indicated visa sponsorship willingness, saving project architects the step of manually screening each posting. On Migrate Mate, you can filter by state to focus on Oregon and by role to surface project architect positions. This is particularly useful given that sponsorship availability varies significantly between smaller Oregon studios and larger firms with dedicated HR and immigration support.
Are there state-specific considerations for project architects seeking sponsorship in Oregon?
Oregon requires project architects overseeing licensed work to hold or work under an Oregon-registered architect. Employers sponsoring international candidates often account for the NCARB licensure timeline in their hiring plans, so candidates with partial IDP hours or AXP completion are more competitive. Oregon's strong emphasis on sustainable design and mass timber construction means candidates with expertise in those areas are particularly sought after by sponsoring firms.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project architect jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
