Which companies sponsor visas for project architects in New Jersey?
Architecture and engineering firms with New Jersey offices that have historically filed H-1B petitions for project architects include HOK, Gensler, Skanska, Turner Construction, and AECOM. Large healthcare systems such as RWJBarnabas Health and Atlantic Health System also maintain in-house architecture teams and have sponsored design professionals. Firms working on NJ Transit capital projects represent another consistent source of sponsorship activity.
Which visa types are most common for project architect roles in New Jersey?
The H-1B is the most common visa for project architects in New Jersey, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a professional degree in architecture. Architects who have earned registration and recognition in their field may qualify for the O-1A. Candidates from Australia may pursue the E-3, and Canadian or Mexican nationals may qualify under the TN visa category for architects listed in the USMCA.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most project architect sponsorship jobs?
Jersey City and Newark generate the most project architect hiring activity due to their proximity to New York City and ongoing commercial and mixed-use development. Princeton attracts architecture talent tied to institutional and university-adjacent projects. Parsippany and Morristown see demand from corporate campus work and healthcare facility expansion. Firms headquartered in these cities tend to have established HR infrastructure for visa sponsorship.
How to find project architect visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate lists project architect roles in New Jersey filtered specifically for positions open to visa sponsorship, saving you the time of screening hundreds of postings manually. You can filter by location and role type to focus on New Jersey firms with a history of sponsoring international architects. Checking employer LCA filings through the Department of Labor's public disclosure data alongside Migrate Mate can help you verify which firms have sponsored project architects recently.
Are there state-specific considerations for project architects seeking sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey requires architects to hold a state license from the New Jersey State Board of Architects to use the title and stamp drawings independently. International candidates working under H-1B status often enter at the project architect level before pursuing licensure through NCARB's pathways. The state's density of AIA NJ-affiliated firms and its proximity to major academic programs at institutions like NJIT creates an active pipeline of internationally trained architecture professionals.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project architect jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
