Search Accounting Jobs in CaliforniaAccounting Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
Which accounting companies sponsor visas in California?
Big Four firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) are the largest sponsors, along with mid-tier firms like BDO, Grant Thornton, and Crowe. Technology companies like Google, Apple, and Meta also sponsor for internal accounting roles. Regional firms in Los Angeles and San Francisco frequently sponsor CPAs and experienced staff accountants.
What visa types are most common for accounting jobs in California?
H-1B is the primary visa for accounting positions, especially for roles requiring a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. L-1 transfers are common for international accounting firms. TN visas work for Canadian and Mexican accountants, while O-1 is rare but possible for exceptionally qualified professionals with specialized expertise.
Which California cities have the most accounting sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles leads with entertainment industry accounting and Big Four offices. San Francisco follows closely due to tech company headquarters and financial services. San Diego, Orange County, and Sacramento also offer opportunities, particularly in biotech, defense contracting, and state government accounting roles.
How to find accounting visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Browse accounting positions on Migrate Mate, which filters for visa sponsorship opportunities. Target Big Four firms during recruiting season (September-November). Network through California Society of CPAs events and university career centers at USC, UCLA, and UC Berkeley, which have strong accounting program pipelines to sponsored employers.
Are there California-specific considerations for accounting sponsorship?
California's high cost of living supports higher prevailing wages, making H-1B applications more competitive. The state's diverse economy means opportunities across entertainment (Hollywood), tech (Silicon Valley), agriculture (Central Valley), and aerospace (Southern California). CPA licensing requirements vary but don't affect initial visa sponsorship eligibility.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored accounting jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
