Search Accounting Intern Jobs in CaliforniaAccounting Intern Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for accounting interns in California?
The Big Four accounting firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG) are the most consistent sponsors for accounting interns in California, particularly through their San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego offices. Regional mid-size firms such as BDO and Grant Thornton also sponsor in California, as do technology companies like Salesforce and Apple that maintain large internal finance and accounting teams.
Which visa types are most common for accounting intern roles in California?
F-1 OPT and CPT are the most common work authorizations for accounting interns in California, as most candidates are students at California universities. For post-graduation or multi-year internships, employers may file an H-1B visa petition, though that process involves an annual lottery. Australian citizens pursuing accounting roles can explore the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and is specifically available for specialty occupation positions.
Which cities in California have the most accounting intern sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and the broader Bay Area have the highest concentration of accounting intern sponsorship opportunities in California, driven by the density of technology companies and major professional services firms. Los Angeles is a close second, with strong demand from entertainment, media, and real estate firms. San Diego also has a notable presence, particularly through biotech and defense-sector companies with active finance teams.
How to find accounting intern visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship roles, including accounting intern positions in California. You can filter by state and role to surface employers who have a documented history of sponsoring international hires in accounting functions. This saves significant time compared to manually screening job postings, which rarely disclose sponsorship eligibility upfront.
Are there any California-specific considerations for accounting interns seeking visa sponsorship?
California's large public university system, including UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UC San Diego, produces a significant pipeline of international accounting students who enter the job market on F-1 OPT each year. This means competition for sponsored internships is meaningful, and candidates benefit from targeting employers with an established OPT hiring track record. California also has strict labor regulations that employers must navigate alongside federal visa requirements, so firms with dedicated HR and immigration support tend to be more reliable sponsors.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored accounting intern jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
