- Own end-to-end feature development across the user lifecycle - from the first identity verification and onboarding flows to cash advances, cash flow management, income earning opportunities, to account management experiences.
- Integrate with financial service providers (Plaid, Stripe, Tabapay) and internal APIs, building robust mobile interfaces that handle sensitive financial data with accuracy and security at scale.
- Develop reusable components, design system elements, and feature scaffolds that accelerate experimentation velocity across our multi-brand mobile platform (Grant, Kikoff, Banking).

You'll work closely with product, data science, and operations teams to ship features that directly impact customers' financial wellbeing while maintaining the highest standards of reliability, security, and compliance.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of mobile development experience with a track record of building and scaling production apps across iOS and/or Android.
- Strong mobile architecture skills - deep understanding of state management patterns, app architecture (MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture), and building maintainable codebases at scale.
- Production app ownership - you've shipped consumer-facing apps at scale, handled crashes, edge cases, and maintained features through multiple releases.
- A mobile platform expertise - solid foundation in iOS (Swift/UIKit/SwiftUI) and/or Android (Kotlin/Java/Jetpack Compose) development.
- Testing mindset - comfortable writing unit, integration, and UI tests; you build quality in from the start.
- API integration experience - skilled at working with REST APIs, handling async operations, error states, and building resilient network layers.
Ideal Candidate Also Has
- Flutter/Dart experience - familiarity with Flutter framework, cross-platform development, or strong willingness to learn (our codebase is Flutter-based).
- Fintech experience - background with payment systems, banking APIs (Plaid, Stripe), identity verification (Sentilink, Persona), or financial services infrastructure.
- Technical leadership - ability to own complex mobile initiatives end-to-end, from architecture design through implementation, testing, and rollout.
- Mentorship - help level up the team through code reviews, design docs, technical guidance, and establishing mobile best practices.
- Impact focus - balance technical excellence with pragmatic delivery - you know when to build for scale vs. ship fast and learn.
- Cross-functional collaboration - partner effectively with backend engineers, product, and designers to deliver seamless end-to-end experiences.

Which companies sponsor visas for mobile engineers in California?
Large tech employers including Apple, Google, Meta, Snap, and Salesforce are among the most active H-1B sponsors for mobile engineers in California. Beyond that tier, mid-size companies like DoorDash, Lyft, and Robinhood have also filed LCAs for mobile engineering roles. Sponsorship activity is concentrated in the Bay Area and Los Angeles, where product-driven companies build and maintain their own mobile platforms.
Which visa types are most common for mobile engineer roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa for mobile engineers in California, as software and mobile development roles generally qualify as specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a related field. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT often use that window to secure employer sponsorship. L-1B visas are used when engineers transfer from a foreign office of a California-based multinational.
Which cities in California have the most mobile engineer sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and the broader Bay Area account for the largest share of mobile engineer sponsorship jobs in California, given the density of tech headquarters and venture-backed startups there. Los Angeles has grown significantly, particularly around its gaming, streaming, and consumer app sectors. San Diego also offers opportunities, especially with companies building mobile health and defense-adjacent applications.
How to find mobile engineer visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for mobile engineer roles in California without wading through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can narrow results by location and role type to surface iOS, Android, and cross-platform openings at California employers with a documented history of sponsoring international candidates.
Are there any California-specific factors mobile engineers should know before pursuing sponsorship?
California's prevailing wage requirements under Department of Labor LCA rules mean employers must pay mobile engineers at or above the determined wage level for the relevant metro area, which tends to be higher in San Francisco and San Jose than elsewhere in the country. The state also has strong university pipelines from UC Berkeley, Stanford, and UCLA that feed mobile engineering talent into sponsoring employers, making competition for sponsored roles particularly high.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mobile engineer jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
