Which companies sponsor visas for paralegals in California?
Large law firms with California offices, including Latham and Watkins, Morrison Foerster, and Orrick, have historically sponsored work visas for paralegals. In-house legal teams at major tech companies headquartered in the Bay Area also sponsor paralegal roles. Immigration law boutiques, particularly those concentrated in Los Angeles and San Jose, are another consistent source of sponsorship for this role.
Which visa types are most common for paralegal roles in California?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for paralegals in California, though it requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, which typically means a bachelor's degree in a specific relevant field is a standard requirement. The TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals if the role meets the applicable category criteria. Australians may qualify for the E-3 visa under similar specialty occupation standards.
Which cities in California have the most paralegal sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and Los Angeles account for the largest share of paralegal sponsorship activity in California. San Francisco's concentration of technology companies with large in-house legal teams drives consistent demand in the Bay Area, while Los Angeles supports a broad mix of entertainment, real estate, and litigation-focused legal work. San Jose and San Diego also have active legal hiring markets worth monitoring.
How to find paralegal visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters paralegal job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search California without sorting through roles that don't sponsor. The platform surfaces positions at law firms and in-house legal teams across Los Angeles, San Francisco, and the Bay Area. Filtering by paralegal on Migrate Mate gives you a focused list of California employers who have indicated sponsorship willingness.
Are there any California-specific considerations for paralegal visa sponsorship?
California's prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B program are generally higher than the national average, reflecting the state's cost of living, particularly in the Bay Area and Los Angeles metro. Employers must certify they will pay at least the prevailing wage for the specific location. Additionally, California's large immigration law sector means paralegals with immigration-specific experience or a background in immigration studies may find more targeted sponsorship opportunities here than in most other states.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored paralegal jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
