Which companies sponsor visas for physical therapist assistants in California?
Large healthcare systems with a California presence, including Kaiser Permanente, Dignity Health, Cedars-Sinai, and Sutter Health, have sponsored work visas for physical therapist assistants in the past. Rehabilitation-focused employers such as Select Medical and Kindred Healthcare also appear in sponsorship records. Sponsorship is more common at larger organizations with dedicated HR and legal teams than at small private practices.
Which visa types are most common for physical therapist assistant roles in California?
The H-1B visa is the most widely used visa for physical therapist assistants in California, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at minimum an associate degree in a specific field. Some employers also use the EB-3 employment-based green card pathway for permanent sponsorship. Physical therapist assistants from Canada or Mexico may explore TN visa eligibility, though PTA classification under TN is not straightforward and warrants careful review with an immigration attorney.
Which cities in California have the most physical therapist assistant sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles County has the highest concentration of PTA sponsorship opportunities, given its dense network of hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and long-term care facilities. San Diego, San Francisco, and Sacramento also show meaningful hiring activity. Inland Empire cities like Riverside and San Bernardino are growing markets due to population expansion and underserved healthcare demand, making them worth monitoring alongside the major coastal metros.
How to find physical therapist assistant visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find physical therapist assistant visa sponsorship jobs in California. The platform filters job listings specifically for international candidates who need sponsorship, so you can search PTA roles in California without sorting through positions that don't offer visa support. Migrate Mate covers openings across hospital systems, outpatient clinics, and rehabilitation networks throughout the state.
What state-specific factors should international PTAs consider when pursuing California jobs?
California requires PTAs to hold a state license issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California, and international applicants must have their foreign credentials evaluated for equivalency before licensure. The state also enforces strict prevailing wage requirements tied to H-1B petitions, which employers must meet regardless of their internal pay structures. California's high cost of living, particularly in Los Angeles and the Bay Area, is a practical factor when evaluating offers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physical therapist assistant jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
