Which companies sponsor visas for speech language pathologists in California?
Large health systems are the most consistent sponsors for speech language pathologists in California, including Kaiser Permanente, Dignity Health, Sutter Health, and UCSF Medical Center. School districts such as Los Angeles Unified and San Diego Unified also sponsor SLPs under H-1B visa. Pediatric therapy networks and outpatient rehabilitation chains with California operations have appeared in Department of Labor LCA disclosures as active sponsors for this role.
Which visa types are most common for speech language pathologist roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa for speech language pathologists in California because the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree in communication sciences and disorders. Some SLPs working in academic medical centers may also be eligible for J-1 visa exchange visitor status through clinical training programs. Permanent residency sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 is available at larger health systems that support long-term hires.
Which cities in California have the most speech language pathologist sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles and the surrounding metro area generate the highest volume of SLP sponsorship postings in California, driven by its large hospital networks, school districts, and private therapy practices. San Francisco and San Jose see strong demand through academic medical centers and pediatric specialty clinics. San Diego and Sacramento are secondary markets with consistent openings across both healthcare and K-12 settings.
How to find speech language pathologist visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles offering visa sponsorship, so you can search speech language pathologist positions in California without manually screening each posting. The platform surfaces openings from health systems, school districts, and rehabilitation networks across the state. Because SLP roles require California state licensure from the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board, filtering for employers already experienced with sponsorship saves significant time.
Are there any state-specific considerations for SLP visa sponsorship in California?
California requires speech language pathologists to hold a state license issued by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board before practicing independently, which employers factor into sponsorship timelines. California also has its own prevailing wage determinations that can affect H-1B filings, and wages in major metro areas like San Francisco often exceed national averages for the role. Academic medical centers at UC campuses are cap-exempt H-1B employers, which can simplify the sponsorship process for qualifying positions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored speech language pathologist jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
