Which companies sponsor visas for speech language pathologists in New York?
Large health systems and school networks are the most active sponsors. Northwell Health, NewYork-Presbyterian, NYC Health + Hospitals, and Mount Sinai Health System have documented H-1B filings for SLP roles. The New York City Department of Education also sponsors speech language pathologists for school-based positions. Outpatient rehabilitation networks and home health agencies in the metro area sponsor less frequently but are worth researching through DOL disclosure data.
Which visa types are most common for speech language pathologist roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for speech language pathologists in New York, as the role meets the specialty occupation standard requiring at least a master's degree in communication sciences and disorders. Some international candidates, particularly those with Canadian or Mexican citizenship, may qualify under the TN visa category, which includes speech-language pathologists on its approved occupation list. EB-3 immigrant visas are also used by hospital employers for permanent sponsorship.
Which cities in New York have the most speech language pathologist sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the large majority of sponsorship opportunities, driven by its dense concentration of hospital systems, public schools, and rehabilitation clinics across all five boroughs. Buffalo and Rochester have a smaller but active market, anchored by healthcare institutions like Kaleida Health and the University of Rochester Medical Center. Albany sees demand through state government health programs and regional hospital networks.
How to find speech language pathologist visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship and lets you filter speech language pathologist roles by state, so you can browse New York opportunities from employers who have sponsored before. Because sponsorship isn't always listed explicitly in job postings, focusing on large health systems and school districts in New York, which have established immigration infrastructure, increases your chances of finding a willing sponsor.
Are there state-specific considerations for speech language pathologists seeking sponsorship in New York?
New York requires speech language pathologists to hold a state license from the New York State Department of Education, which is separate from your ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence. International candidates must have their credentials evaluated and meet the state licensure requirements before starting work, which affects the timing of any visa petition. Hospital employers in New York City are also subject to collective bargaining agreements in some settings, which can influence the hiring and sponsorship process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored speech language pathologist jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
