Which companies sponsor visas for civil project engineers in Delaware?
Large engineering and consulting firms with Delaware operations are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for civil project engineers. AECOM, WSP, Kimley-Horn, and Michael Baker International have all filed Labor Condition Applications for civil engineering roles in the region. DelDOT's capital program also generates significant work for contracted firms, which in turn hire and sponsor international engineers for transportation and infrastructure projects.
Which visa types are most common for civil project engineer roles in Delaware?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for civil project engineers in Delaware, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. Engineers with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may pursue TN status under the engineer category. Those with extraordinary ability or exceptional peer recognition may qualify for the O-1A, though this requires substantial documentation.
Which cities in Delaware have the most civil project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington concentrates the majority of civil project engineering sponsorship activity in Delaware, given its density of engineering firm offices and proximity to major infrastructure corridors. Newark, home to the University of Delaware, also attracts engineering employers, particularly for transportation and environmental projects. Dover sees demand tied to state agency work and Route 1 corridor development, though at lower volume than Wilmington.
How to find civil project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for civil project engineer roles in Delaware without sorting through positions that don't support international candidates. The platform surfaces openings from engineering firms and infrastructure consultants active in the state. Filtering by role and location in Migrate Mate is the most direct way to identify which Delaware employers are actively sponsoring for this position.
Are there state-specific factors that affect civil project engineer sponsorship in Delaware?
Delaware's relatively small size means the engineering market is closely tied to state and county infrastructure budgets, particularly DelDOT's capital program. Prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B process apply here as in all states, and employers must file a certified Labor Condition Application before sponsoring. Delaware's proximity to Philadelphia also means many firms serve both markets, increasing the pool of employers with established sponsorship processes for civil engineering roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored civil project engineer jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
