Which companies sponsor visas for project engineers in Florida?
Construction and engineering firms with active Florida operations, including Skanska, Turner Construction, Jacobs Engineering, and AECOM, have a history of sponsoring H-1B visas for project engineers. Aerospace and defense contractors such as L3Harris, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin also sponsor regularly, particularly for roles tied to Kennedy Space Center and Patrick Space Force Base on Florida's Space Coast.
Which visa types are most common for project engineer roles in Florida?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for project engineers in Florida, as civil, mechanical, and systems engineering roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a relevant bachelor's degree. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status under the engineer category. Candidates with extraordinary ability or multinational manager backgrounds occasionally pursue O-1 or L-1 pathways, though these are less common for standard project engineer positions.
Which cities in Florida have the most project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Miami and Tampa generate the highest volume of project engineer openings tied to commercial construction, infrastructure, and transportation projects. Orlando follows closely, driven by large-scale development and utility expansion. The Space Coast corridor, including Melbourne and Titusville, concentrates aerospace and defense engineering roles. Jacksonville has a growing presence in naval and industrial project engineering, supported by Naval Station Mayport and related contractors.
How to find project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search project engineer roles in Florida without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. The platform aggregates openings across construction, infrastructure, aerospace, and defense sectors in cities like Miami, Tampa, and Orlando. Filtering by state and role on Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have actively indicated sponsorship willingness for project engineer candidates.
Are there state-specific considerations for project engineers seeking sponsorship in Florida?
Florida's construction and infrastructure sectors are governed by state licensing requirements, and employers may factor Professional Engineer (PE) licensure eligibility into hiring decisions for sponsored candidates. Florida's lack of a state income tax can make total compensation comparisons more straightforward. The state's heavy investment in transportation, water infrastructure, and aerospace creates consistent demand, and Florida universities such as the University of Florida and UCF supply engineering pipelines that international graduates also tap into.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project engineer jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
