Which companies sponsor visas for project engineers in Nebraska?
Kiewit Corporation, headquartered in Omaha, is one of the most active sponsors for project engineers in Nebraska, particularly in heavy civil and construction. HDR Engineering, also Omaha-based, sponsors for infrastructure and environmental roles. Black and Veatch and Burns and McDonnell have Nebraska project teams with sponsorship history. Manufacturing and food processing companies like Cargill and Tyson also hire sponsored project engineers.
Which visa types are most common for project engineers in Nebraska?
The H-1B is the most common visa for project engineers in Nebraska, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering. The O-1A is an option for engineers with demonstrated distinction in their field. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status under the engineer category, which has no lottery and can be faster to obtain.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Omaha accounts for the majority of project engineer sponsorship activity in Nebraska, driven by its concentration of engineering firms, construction companies, and corporate headquarters. Lincoln is the second-largest market, with opportunities in public infrastructure, utilities, and university-affiliated research and construction projects. Smaller markets like Grand Island and Kearney occasionally have openings tied to manufacturing and agricultural processing facilities.
How to find project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to browse project engineer openings in Nebraska without sorting through roles that don't sponsor. You can filter by state and role to surface positions at companies like Kiewit and HDR that have active sponsorship histories. This saves significant time compared to manually researching each employer's immigration track record.
Are there state-specific factors project engineers should know about Nebraska sponsorship?
Nebraska's engineering market is heavily tied to infrastructure, water systems, and agricultural processing, so project engineers with backgrounds in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering tend to find the strongest sponsorship opportunities. The University of Nebraska pipeline supplies local talent, which means international candidates benefit from targeting employers on large-scale federal or state contracts, where specialized experience is harder to source domestically. Prevailing wage requirements under H-1B rules apply statewide.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project engineer jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
