Which companies sponsor visas for project engineers in Pennsylvania?
Large engineering and construction firms with Pennsylvania operations, including AECOM, Bechtel, Jacobs Engineering, and Burns & McDonnell, have consistent records of sponsoring project engineers for H-1B visas. Energy companies like PPL Corporation and EQT Corporation, as well as manufacturers such as Air Products and Chemicals, also appear regularly in Department of Labor LCA filings for project engineering roles in the state.
Which visa types are most common for project engineer roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most common visa for project engineers in Pennsylvania, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering. Candidates on F-1 OPT, particularly those with STEM degrees, can work for up to three years before needing H-1B sponsorship. Some Canadian and Mexican engineers in Pennsylvania also work under TN visas using the engineer category.
How to find project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse project engineer openings in Pennsylvania without sorting through roles that don't offer sponsorship. You can filter by state and job title to surface relevant positions across Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and other Pennsylvania markets where engineering firms actively hire internationally trained candidates.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia and Pittsburgh account for the majority of project engineer sponsorship activity in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia draws demand from infrastructure, pharmaceutical, and utilities sectors, with firms concentrated in the greater metro and Delaware Valley corridor. Pittsburgh has a strong base in energy, civil infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing. Allentown and the Lehigh Valley are also notable, particularly for manufacturing and energy-related project engineering roles.
Are there any Pennsylvania-specific considerations for project engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Pennsylvania's project engineer market is heavily influenced by the state's energy transition investments, particularly in natural gas infrastructure and growing renewable energy projects, which drives ongoing demand for internationally sponsored engineers. Employers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the specific region where the work is performed, so wages for a project engineer role in Philadelphia will differ from those in smaller Pennsylvania metros. OPT students from Penn State, Carnegie Mellon, and Drexel often enter this pipeline directly through campus recruiting.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
