Which companies sponsor visas for senior software development engineers in Florida?
Florida-based employers with active sponsorship histories for senior software development engineers include Chewy (Dania Beach), L3Harris Technologies (Melbourne), Modernizing Medicine (Boca Raton), AdventHealth (Orlando), and Raymond James Financial (St. Petersburg). Defense contractors and healthtech firms in Florida have been particularly active sponsors, as these industries rely heavily on specialized engineering talent and tend to have established immigration support processes.
Which visa types are most common for senior software development engineer roles in Florida?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for senior software development engineers in Florida, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Candidates already in the U.S. may also hold L-1B intracompany transferee status or O-1A visas for those with demonstrated extraordinary ability. Some employers also support TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals.
Which cities in Florida have the most senior software development engineer sponsorship jobs?
Miami leads in volume, driven by its fintech and startup ecosystem. Orlando follows closely, with a strong pipeline from defense, simulation, and healthcare IT employers. Tampa has expanded significantly as financial services and cybersecurity firms have established engineering hubs there. Boca Raton and Melbourne round out the top markets, largely through healthtech and aerospace employers respectively. Remote roles posted to Florida entities also appear across these metros.
How to find senior software development engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you can search senior software development engineer roles in Florida without sifting through positions that won't support international candidates. The platform surfaces roles from employers with documented sponsorship activity across Florida's tech, defense, and healthcare sectors. Filtering by state and role level on Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to manually screening general job boards.
What should senior software development engineers know about Florida's sponsorship market specifically?
Florida does not have a state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons since DOL wage determinations for H-1B positions are based on national and metro-level data rather than state tax structures. Florida's largest engineering demand comes from defense, aerospace, and healthcare IT, meaning senior software development engineer roles often require security clearance eligibility or domain-specific experience, which can influence which candidates employers are willing to sponsor.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software development engineer jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
