Position Title: Sr. Software Engineer – Core Services
Department: Engineering
Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid)
Position Summary
Grand Circle Corporation is the leader in international travel, adventure and discovery for Americans aged 50+. Headquartered in Boston, MA, our global travel brands include Grand Circle Travel, Overseas Adventure Travel and Grand Circle Cruise Line.
We’re looking for a Sr. Software Engineer to join our Core Services team, a platform-focused group responsible for building and modernizing the services that power experiences across our websites, mobile applications and other customer-facing platforms.
This is a highly hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, asking thoughtful questions and figuring out how to build things better—not just maintain the status quo. You’ll spend the majority of your time coding while also taking technical ownership of projects, contributing to architecture and solution design, and helping shape the future of our platforms through modern, cloud-based, microservice architecture.
What You’ll Do
- Take hands-on ownership of the end-to-end development of backend services and APIs, from requirements and technical design through development, testing, deployment and ongoing support.
- Design and build scalable, secure, reusable and maintainable microservices that can be leveraged across our websites, mobile applications and other platforms.
- Help modernize legacy capabilities by migrating functionality to a more flexible, cloud-based services architecture.
- Drive technical projects from concept through delivery, partnering with engineers, product/business stakeholders and other technical teams.
- Contribute to architecture and technical design decisions, challenging assumptions and asking the right questions to ensure we’re building an improved platform—not simply keeping existing systems running.
- Develop high-quality, well-tested code and participate in code reviews, technical sizing and solution design.
- Build and improve APIs and integrations supporting core capabilities such as reservations, booking, account services and customer-facing platforms.
- Help evolve our engineering practices, architecture and technical roadmap to enable GCC to deliver new functionality faster and more effectively.
- Support production applications and services through monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response and continuous reliability improvements.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers while collaborating with teammates locally and around the globe.
- Work with Azure and modern cloud technologies to develop and deploy highly available services.
Qualifications
- 5–8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with strong experience building backend applications, APIs and services.
- Strong backend development experience in .NET/C# or another modern backend language (Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, etc.).
- Experience designing and developing microservices, RESTful APIs and cloud-based services.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, SOLID principles, automated testing and engineering best practices.
- Experience designing scalable, performant, secure and maintainable solutions.
- Experience with Azure or another major cloud platform; deep Azure expertise is a plus but not required.
- Comfortable working across unfamiliar technologies and learning new tools and frameworks as needed.
- Strong problem-solving skills and intellectual curiosity—you’re someone who asks “why?”, asks good questions and can independently figure things out.
- Ability to take technical ownership and drive projects forward with a high degree of autonomy.
- Experience with relational databases and SQL.
- Experience with Git-based development workflows, code reviews and CI/CD practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering and business teams.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Extra Points
- Experience modernizing or migrating legacy applications to microservice or cloud-based architectures.
- Experience building shared platform services consumed by multiple applications or teams.
- Experience with reservation, booking, customer/account services or other high-volume transactional systems.
- Experience with telephony, call center or customer service integrations.
- Experience serving as a technical lead or leading significant engineering projects.
- Interest in eventually growing into an engineering leadership/management role.
Total Rewards
The base salary range for this role is $140,000 – $180,000 annually for employees based in Boston, MA. Final compensation may vary and will be determined based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and geographic location.
In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for an annual incentive bonus and first-class benefits, including comprehensive health and wellness benefits, generous PTO and holidays, Summer Fridays, extensive parental leave, travel discounts, 401(k) with company match, professional development opportunities and more.

Which companies sponsor visas for senior software development engineers in Massachusetts?
Some of the most active sponsors for senior software development engineers in Massachusetts include Amazon (with large offices in Boston), Microsoft, Wayfair, Biogen, MathWorks, HubSpot, Raytheon Technologies, and Liberty Mutual. Massachusetts also has a strong startup ecosystem around Kendall Square and the Seaport District where growth-stage companies regularly sponsor engineers at the senior level.
Which visa types are most common for senior software development engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for senior software development engineers in Massachusetts, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Employers also sponsor through the O-1A for engineers with demonstrated extraordinary ability, and some multinational companies use the L-1A or L-1B for intracompany transfers into their Massachusetts offices.
How to find senior software development engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for senior software development engineer roles in Massachusetts without wading through positions that don't sponsor. The platform surfaces employers with active sponsorship history in this state, which is particularly useful in a competitive market like Greater Boston where not every senior engineering opening includes sponsorship.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most senior software development engineer sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the largest share of senior software development engineer sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts, driven by the concentration of tech companies, biotech firms, and university-affiliated research institutions around Kendall Square and the Financial District. Waltham and Burlington along the Route 128 corridor are also significant hubs, particularly for defense technology, enterprise software, and established tech companies with dedicated engineering centers.
Are there any Massachusetts-specific considerations for senior software development engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Massachusetts employers filing Labor Condition Applications for senior software development engineers must meet the Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the Boston-Cambridge-Nashua metropolitan area, which reflects the region's high cost of living. The state's deep university pipeline from MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, and Boston University also means strong competition for senior roles, so candidates with specialized skills in areas like machine learning, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure tend to have an advantage in sponsorship conversations.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software development engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
