INTRODUCTION
We’re looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain embedded software for our next-generation breast and skeletal health systems. In addition to core embedded software development, this role requires hands-on experience with low-level embedded software development, including driver-level design, implementation, and testing, as well as board bring-up activities. The engineer will work closely with hardware teams to interface with peripherals and ensure reliable system operation using communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, and Ethernet. This role is based out of Newark, DE and will require onsite presence.
What You’ll Do
- Develop an expert-level understanding of our products and how they’re used in clinical practice.
- Design, implement, and validate low-level device drivers for embedded platforms.
- Perform board bring-up activities, including hardware/software integration, debugging, and validation on new hardware platforms.
- Develop and debug software interfaces for hardware peripherals using protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, and Ethernet.
- Work within an Agile/Scrum/Continuous Integration environment to deliver reliable, production-ready code.
- Contribute to technical documentation, including requirements, design specifications, and release notes.
- Identify, design, and implement appropriate software testing; collaborate closely with Test Engineers to support verification and validation.
- Diagnose, prioritize, and resolve complex technical issues; analyze defects and drive process improvements.
- Serve as a technical leader on the team—mentoring junior engineers, promoting best practices, and insisting on high standards for quality and usability.
- Partner with Product Management and domain experts to define product improvements and new features.
- Perform software risk assessments (e.g., FMEAs) and help develop appropriate mitigations at the component, subsystem, and system levels.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and propose opportunities for product and process improvements.
- Train cross-functional teams on key product design elements and proper usage where needed.
- In addition to core embedded software development, this role requires hands-on experience with low-level embedded software development, including driver-level design, implementation, and testing, as well as board bring-up activities.
- The engineer will work closely with hardware teams to interface with peripherals and ensure reliable system operation using communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, and Ethernet.

- Expert-level programming skills in C/C++ in an embedded environment; assembler-level experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated mastery of software design principles, data structures, design patterns, and multithreading.
- Ability to architect complex software systems to meet functional and performance requirements while maintaining long-term maintainability.
- Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams to identify control signals and processor inputs.

Which companies sponsor visas for senior software development engineers in Delaware?
Financial technology employers dominate visa sponsorship for senior software development engineers in Delaware. JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Barclays, and Capital One all maintain engineering teams in Wilmington and have consistent H-1B visa sponsorship histories filed with the Department of Labor. Outside fintech, DuPont and Incyte sponsor senior engineering roles in their technology divisions. Sponsorship activity is concentrated among large enterprises rather than startups.
Which visa types are most common for senior software development engineer roles in Delaware?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for senior software development engineers in Delaware, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Candidates already holding L-1B intracompany transferee status at multinational firms like JPMorgan or Barclays sometimes transition to H-1B. O-1A petitions occasionally apply for engineers with documented extraordinary achievement.
Which cities in Delaware have the most senior software development engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington accounts for the large majority of senior software development engineer sponsorship activity in Delaware, driven by the concentration of financial services and fintech headquarters along the Brandywine corridor. Newark, home to the University of Delaware, has a smaller but growing technology employer presence. Dover sees limited senior engineering sponsorship. Many Delaware-based roles are also accessible from across the Pennsylvania and New Jersey borders.
How to find senior software development engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search senior software development engineer roles in Delaware without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. Because Delaware's sponsoring employers are heavily concentrated in financial services and life sciences, filtering by industry alongside location on Migrate Mate helps narrow results to the employers most likely to have active sponsorship processes in place.
Are there state-specific considerations for senior software development engineers seeking sponsorship in Delaware?
Delaware's sponsoring employers are primarily large regulated financial institutions, which tend to have structured internal immigration processes and established relationships with immigration counsel. This means H-1B petitions at firms like JPMorgan or Bank of America typically go through formal HR workflows rather than ad hoc arrangements. The University of Delaware produces a pipeline of engineering graduates and has partnerships with regional employers, which can benefit candidates transitioning from OPT to H-1B sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software development engineer jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
