Which companies in Wisconsin sponsor visas for senior software development engineers?
Fiserv and Northwestern Mutual in Milwaukee are among the most active H-1B sponsors for senior software engineering roles in Wisconsin, particularly in fintech and enterprise platforms. Epic Systems in Verona sponsors for healthcare software development, while Kohler and Johnson Controls have also filed for senior engineering positions. Larger employers with established immigration programs are generally better positioned to navigate the sponsorship process.
Which visa types are most common for senior software development engineer roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for senior software development engineers in Wisconsin, as these roles consistently meet the specialty occupation standard given their degree requirements in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates already in the U.S. on OPT or STEM OPT may transfer to H-1B through their employer. L-1B and O-1 visas are less common but do appear at larger multinational employers like Johnson Controls.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most senior software development engineer sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee is Wisconsin's primary hub for senior software development engineer sponsorship, driven by its fintech and financial services sector. Madison is a close second, anchored by Epic Systems and a growing startup ecosystem connected to the University of Wisconsin. Green Bay has a smaller but active market with employers in insurance and manufacturing technology. Most remote-eligible roles listed with Wisconsin employers are still headquartered in one of these three cities.
How to find senior software development engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international engineers searching for visa-sponsored roles and filters jobs by role, state, and sponsorship status, making it straightforward to find senior software development engineer positions in Wisconsin. Beyond filtering by location, focus on established employers in Milwaukee's fintech sector and Madison's healthtech cluster, as those industries have the most consistent H-1B sponsorship histories in the state.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for senior software development engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Wisconsin employers sponsoring H-1B workers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for senior software development engineer roles, and wages are benchmarked to the Milwaukee-Waukesha or Madison metropolitan areas depending on the work location. Epic Systems in Verona maintains a large campus near Madison and has historically hired internationally through OPT pipelines at the University of Wisconsin. Candidates with experience in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or enterprise SaaS align well with Wisconsin's dominant employer needs.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software development engineer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
