Which visa types are most common for teaching roles in Florida?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for teachers in specialty occupation roles, particularly those requiring a degree in a specific subject area such as science, mathematics, or special education. The J-1 visa exchange visitor visa is also widely used in Florida schools for cultural exchange teaching programs. Some positions at universities or research institutions may qualify for O-1 visa or TN visas depending on the candidate's nationality and credentials.
Which companies and school districts sponsor visas for teaching jobs in Florida?
Florida's largest public school districts, including Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Broward County Public Schools, and Hillsborough County Public Schools, have histories of sponsoring work visas for qualified international educators, particularly in high-need subject areas like special education, bilingual education, and STEM. Private K-12 schools and higher education institutions such as the University of Florida and Florida International University also sponsor teaching and faculty roles.
Which cities in Florida have the most teaching visa sponsorship jobs?
Miami leads in teaching sponsorship opportunities, driven by the size of Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the city's large bilingual and multilingual student population. Orlando and Tampa also generate consistent openings through their respective county districts and growing charter school networks. Gainesville and Tallahassee offer university-based teaching positions through the University of Florida and Florida State University, which regularly sponsor international faculty and instructors.
How to find teaching visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate is a job board specifically built for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the United States. You can filter by state and role to find teaching positions in Florida where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. This is more efficient than searching general job boards, since Migrate Mate surfaces roles relevant to visa-holding candidates rather than requiring you to screen each posting manually for sponsorship information.
Are there state-specific considerations for international teachers seeking sponsorship in Florida?
Florida requires teachers in public schools to hold or obtain a Florida Educator Certificate, which involves meeting subject area competency and background check requirements. International educators may need to have foreign transcripts evaluated by a NACES-approved credential evaluation service before applying for certification. High-need subject areas, including special education, mathematics, and science, tend to attract more employer-sponsored positions across Florida's districts, making subject specialization a meaningful factor in sponsorship prospects.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored teaching jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
