Search Procurement Jobs in IllinoisProcurement Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for procurement professionals in Illinois?
Several large Illinois-based employers have consistent track records of sponsoring work visas for procurement roles. These include Caterpillar in Peoria, Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, Boeing in Chicago, United Airlines, and Walgreens Boots Alliance in Deerfield. Large consulting firms and third-party logistics companies operating out of Chicago also file H-1B petitions for supply chain and sourcing positions regularly.
What visa types are most common for procurement roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most frequently used visa for procurement professionals in Illinois, particularly for roles like strategic sourcing manager, contract analyst, or supply chain analyst that require a relevant bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, or engineering. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying business or engineering capacities. Procurement roles at multinational firms may also support L-1 transfers for intracompany candidates.
Which cities in Illinois have the most procurement sponsorship jobs?
Chicago is by far the most active city for procurement sponsorship in Illinois, given its concentration of corporate headquarters, logistics infrastructure, and financial services firms. The broader Chicago metro, including Deerfield, North Chicago, Mettawa, and Schaumburg, adds significantly to that count through pharmaceutical and manufacturing employers. Peoria is notable specifically for Caterpillar's global procurement and supply chain operations.
How to find procurement visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is designed specifically for international candidates searching for visa sponsorship roles, including procurement positions in Illinois. You can filter by state and job category to surface employers who have previously sponsored work visas for supply chain, sourcing, and contract management roles. This saves time compared to manually screening postings that may not offer sponsorship, which is a common frustration for international procurement candidates.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for international procurement candidates?
Illinois sits at the center of U.S. freight and logistics networks, meaning procurement roles often require familiarity with manufacturing or distribution supply chains, which can strengthen a visa petition by demonstrating specialized expertise. The state's university pipeline, particularly from University of Illinois and Northwestern, means employers are accustomed to sponsoring international graduates in business and engineering disciplines that align directly with procurement functions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored procurement jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
