Search Controls Engineer Jobs in IndianaControls Engineer Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for controls engineers in Indiana?
Cummins, Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Eli Lilly, Rolls-Royce, and Steelcase are among Indiana employers with documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories for engineering roles. Indiana's manufacturing concentration means controls engineers are frequently hired at facilities rather than corporate headquarters, so sponsorship activity extends well beyond Indianapolis to plants in Columbus, Lafayette, and Fort Wayne.
Which visa types are most common for controls engineer roles in Indiana?
The H-1B is the most common visa for controls engineers in Indiana, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or controls engineering, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status under the engineer classification. Candidates already holding an H-1B with another employer can transfer it to an Indiana-based employer without re-entering the lottery.
Which cities in Indiana have the most controls engineer sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis has the highest concentration of sponsoring employers due to its mix of life sciences, automotive, and manufacturing companies. Columbus is a significant hub given Cummins' global headquarters there. Lafayette sees consistent demand tied to Subaru's manufacturing plant. Fort Wayne and Terre Haute also have active industrial facilities that hire controls engineers, particularly in food processing and defense manufacturing.
How to find controls engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search controls engineer roles in Indiana without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. The platform surfaces openings from Indiana manufacturers, automotive suppliers, and engineering firms that have sponsored visas before, which is particularly useful given how spread out Indiana's industrial employers are across multiple mid-sized cities.
Are there any Indiana-specific factors controls engineers should know about visa sponsorship?
Indiana's heavy manufacturing base means prevailing wage determinations for controls engineers are often benchmarked against industrial and automotive sector wages, which can differ from metro tech-sector norms. Purdue University and Indiana University generate a local pipeline of engineering graduates, so sponsored roles tend to require demonstrated specialization in areas like PLC programming, SCADA systems, or industrial automation to stand out from domestic applicants.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored controls engineer jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
