Which companies sponsor visas for electrical engineers in Indiana?
Companies with consistent H-1B sponsorship records for electrical engineers in Indiana include Cummins, Rolls-Royce (which maintains a large engineering center in Indianapolis), Eli Lilly, Raytheon Technologies, and various Tier 1 automotive suppliers concentrated in the Fort Wayne and Columbus areas. Large utility operators like Duke Energy and AES Indiana have also sponsored engineers in power systems and grid-related roles.
Which visa types are most common for electrical engineer roles in Indiana?
The H-1B is the most common visa for electrical engineers in Indiana, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Some employers, particularly multinational manufacturers like Cummins and Rolls-Royce, also use L-1B visas for engineers transferring from overseas offices. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under the TN visa category.
How to find electrical engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate lets you filter electrical engineer jobs specifically by visa sponsorship and state, making it straightforward to identify Indiana employers actively hiring for these roles. Because sponsorship willingness is not always stated in standard job postings, using a dedicated platform like Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to reviewing hundreds of listings manually across general job sites.
Which cities in Indiana have the most electrical engineer sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis is the primary concentration point, anchored by corporate headquarters and engineering centers for companies like Cummins, Eli Lilly, and Rolls-Royce. Fort Wayne is a secondary hub driven by manufacturing and defense contractors. Columbus, Indiana, hosts a dense cluster of Cummins facilities focused on engine and power electronics engineering. South Bend and Lafayette, home to Purdue University's extended ecosystem, also see steady electrical engineering hiring.
Are there any Indiana-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for electrical engineers?
Indiana's manufacturing-heavy economy means many electrical engineer roles are tied to production and R&D environments rather than pure software or consulting contexts, which can affect how employers classify positions for H-1B specialty occupation purposes. Purdue University in West Lafayette produces a significant pipeline of electrical engineering graduates, and some Indiana employers have established patterns of sponsoring international students transitioning from OPT. Prevailing wage requirements apply statewide and are determined by the Department of Labor based on the specific role and location.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical engineer jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
