Which companies in Iowa sponsor visas for accounting associates?
Principal Financial Group, Nationwide, and Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in Des Moines are among the larger Iowa employers with established HR infrastructure for visa sponsorship. University of Iowa and Iowa State University also hire accounting staff and have experience processing work visa petitions. Mid-size regional firms and CPA partnerships are less likely to sponsor, so targeting large corporate employers is generally more productive.
Which visa types are most common for accounting associate roles in Iowa?
The H-1B is the most common visa for accounting associates in Iowa, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, qualifying it as a specialty occupation. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for TN status under the accountant category, which does not involve a lottery. Those with an F-1 OPT period should confirm their role qualifies before the OPT window closes.
Which cities in Iowa have the most accounting associate sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines accounts for the largest share of accounting associate sponsorship opportunities in Iowa, driven by its concentration of insurance, financial services, and corporate headquarters. Cedar Rapids has a secondary cluster tied to manufacturing and agribusiness finance functions. Iowa City and Ames, home to major universities and affiliated medical centers, also generate accounting roles, particularly within healthcare and higher-education administrative departments.
How to find accounting associate visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters accounting associate roles by visa sponsorship willingness, so you are not sorting through listings from employers who will not sponsor. Within Migrate Mate, narrowing results to Iowa surfaces roles at Des Moines financial firms and Cedar Rapids corporate employers that have sponsored candidates previously. Setting up alerts ensures you see new postings as soon as they are listed.
Are there any state-specific considerations for accounting associates seeking sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa's accounting job market is heavily weighted toward financial services and agribusiness, so candidates with coursework or experience in those sectors are more competitive. The DOL prevailing wage determination for accounting associates in the Des Moines metropolitan area sets the floor that any sponsoring employer must meet in an H-1B petition. Iowa does not impose additional state-level work authorization requirements beyond federal visa conditions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored accounting associate jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
