Which companies sponsor visas for construction engineers in Kansas?
Engineering and construction firms with a documented history of H-1B sponsorship in Kansas include AECOM, Burns & McDonnell, Garver, and Terracon. Public-sector adjacent employers, such as KDOT contractors and firms supporting Wichita's aviation infrastructure, also sponsor regularly. Larger firms with multi-state operations tend to have established immigration processes, which can streamline the sponsorship experience for construction engineers.
Which visa types are most common for construction engineer roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for construction engineers in Kansas, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering. Some candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship use the TN visa under the USMCA, which applies to engineers and does not require an annual lottery.
Which cities in Kansas have the most construction engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wichita is the primary hub for construction engineer sponsorship in Kansas, driven by aviation facility construction, commercial development, and infrastructure work tied to companies like Spirit AeroSystems and the surrounding supply chain. Kansas City (the Kansas side) also generates consistent demand, particularly for engineers working on transportation and mixed-use development projects. Topeka sees activity through state government-contracted infrastructure work.
How to find construction engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters construction engineer jobs in Kansas specifically to roles where employers have a track record of visa sponsorship, saving you from applying to positions where international candidates are routinely screened out. You can search by role and state to surface relevant openings in Wichita, Kansas City, and beyond. It's designed for international job seekers navigating the H-1B and TN process, not general job boards built for domestic applicants.
Are there any Kansas-specific considerations for construction engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Kansas employers sponsoring H-1B construction engineers must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which are determined by the specific job location and role level. Wichita's aviation and industrial construction sector creates demand for engineers with project management and structural backgrounds. Kansas State University and the University of Kansas also produce engineering graduates who sometimes transition to sponsored roles through campus-to-industry pipelines with local firms.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored construction engineer jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
