Which companies in Kansas sponsor visas for software architects?
Garmin's headquarters in Olathe is one of the most active technology employers in the state and has a history of sponsoring H-1B visas for engineering and architecture roles. Oracle Health (formerly Cerner), headquartered in the Kansas City metro area, is another consistent sponsor. Wichita-based aerospace firms like Spirit AeroSystems also hire software architects, particularly those working on embedded or systems-level design.
What visa types are most commonly used for software architect roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa category for software architects in Kansas, given that the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Some candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship pursue the TN visa, which has no annual cap and can be faster to obtain. Individuals with exceptional recognition in their field sometimes pursue the O-1A.
Which cities in Kansas have the most software architect visa sponsorship jobs?
The Kansas City metro area, which straddles the Kansas-Missouri border, concentrates the largest share of software architect sponsorship activity in the state, with Overland Park and Olathe seeing consistent hiring. Wichita is the second-largest market, driven by aviation-technology employers. Lawrence, home to the University of Kansas, generates some demand through research-adjacent tech roles, though at lower volume than the metro corridor.
How to find software architect visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for software architect roles in Kansas without sifting through positions that won't support international candidates. The platform is built for job seekers who need sponsorship, which makes it more efficient than general-purpose boards for this search. Filtering by state and role on Migrate Mate surfaces active listings from employers already set up to sponsor.
Are there any Kansas-specific considerations for software architects pursuing visa sponsorship?
The Department of Labor's prevailing wage requirement applies to H-1B petitions nationwide, and software architect roles in Kansas are benchmarked against local wage surveys, which tend to reflect a lower cost-of-living market than coastal tech hubs. This means offered salaries can be lower in absolute terms while still meeting compliance thresholds. Kansas also has a modest but growing university pipeline through KU and Kansas State that some employers draw from when sponsoring entry-level architect roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software architect jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
