Which companies sponsor visas for physical therapists in Louisiana?
The largest sponsors in Louisiana are major health systems, including Ochsner Health (headquartered in New Orleans), LCMC Health, Willis-Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport, and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Rehabilitation-focused outpatient networks and long-term care facilities also sponsor PTs, particularly in areas with documented shortages of licensed therapists.
Which visa types are most common for physical therapist roles in Louisiana?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for physical therapists in Louisiana, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. Some employers also use the EB-3 immigrant visa for permanent sponsorship. International PTs must hold an active Louisiana Physical Therapy license and pass the NPTE before beginning employment.
Which cities in Louisiana have the most physical therapist sponsorship jobs?
New Orleans and Baton Rouge account for the largest share of PT sponsorship jobs, driven by major hospital systems and outpatient rehabilitation centers. Shreveport and Lafayette also have meaningful hiring activity. Rural parishes across central and northern Louisiana see demand too, partly because federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas can make sponsorship more straightforward for qualifying employers.
How to find physical therapist visa sponsorship jobs in Louisiana?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters physical therapist roles in Louisiana by visa sponsorship eligibility, so you're not sorting through listings that won't support your immigration status. Search by city or employer type to find positions at Louisiana health systems and outpatient clinics actively hiring internationally trained PTs. Verifying licensure requirements before applying saves time in the process.
Are there state-specific considerations for internationally trained physical therapists in Louisiana?
Yes. Louisiana requires all physical therapists to be licensed through the Louisiana Physical Therapy Board before practicing. International applicants must have their foreign credentials evaluated, typically through FCCPT or a similar credentialing body, and must pass the NPTE. Louisiana also has several rural Health Professional Shortage Areas, which can influence which employers prioritize sponsorship and what positions qualify for certain visa classifications.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physical therapist jobs in Louisiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
