Which companies sponsor visas for OTs in Maine?
The largest sponsors for occupational therapists in Maine are MaineHealth (including Maine Medical Center), Northern Light Health, and Central Maine Healthcare. Skilled nursing and rehabilitation networks such as Gosnell Memorial Hospice and various long-term care facilities also file H-1B visa petitions for OTs. Staffing agencies that place therapists in Maine facilities are another common sponsorship pathway, particularly for rural placements.
Which visa types are most common for OT roles in Maine?
The H-1B is the most common visa for occupational therapists in Maine, as OT qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree. The TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals with an OT degree recognized under USMCA. International OTs from certain countries may also pursue EB-3 immigrant visa sponsorship, which some Maine healthcare employers support for hard-to-fill positions.
Which cities in Maine have the most OT sponsorship jobs?
Portland is Maine's primary hub for OT sponsorship, anchored by Maine Medical Center and a concentration of outpatient rehabilitation clinics. Bangor is the second largest market, driven by Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Lewiston, Augusta, and Biddeford also have active hiring through regional hospital systems and skilled nursing facilities. Rural areas see demand as well, particularly through state and federal rural health programs.
How to find ot visa sponsorship jobs in Maine?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find OT visa sponsorship jobs in Maine, with listings filtered specifically for roles where employers are open to sponsoring international candidates. Searching by state and role on Migrate Mate surfaces positions at MaineHealth affiliates, Northern Light facilities, and rehabilitation networks across Portland, Bangor, and smaller communities. Verifying NBCOT certification and Maine state licensure eligibility before applying strengthens your application.
Are there state-specific considerations for OTs seeking sponsorship in Maine?
Maine requires occupational therapists to hold an active state license through the Maine Board of Occupational Therapy Practice, and employers typically require NBCOT certification before sponsoring a visa petition. Maine's rural designation in many counties makes some OT positions eligible for federal loan repayment programs, which can make sponsored roles more attractive to both employers and candidates. Prevailing wage compliance is determined by the Bangor or Portland metropolitan area wage data depending on work location.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ot jobs in Maine?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
