Which companies sponsor visas for OTs in Virginia?
Virginia's largest health systems are the most consistent OT sponsors. Inova Health System (Northern Virginia), Sentara Healthcare (Hampton Roads), VCU Health (Richmond), and UVA Health (Charlottesville) have all filed H-1B and PERM petitions for occupational therapists. Skilled nursing facility operators and outpatient rehabilitation networks also sponsor OTs, though at smaller volumes than major academic medical centers.
Which visa types are most common for OT roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa for occupational therapists in Virginia, as OT qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree. Many Virginia employers also pursue EB-3 green card sponsorship for OTs, particularly through the PERM labor certification process. Some international OTs enter on TN visas if they are Canadian or Mexican citizens, provided they meet NAFTA/USMCA occupational classification requirements.
Which cities in Virginia have the most OT sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia (Arlington, Fairfax, Alexandria) has the highest concentration of OT sponsorship opportunities due to the density of Inova facilities and proximity to Washington, D.C. Richmond follows closely, driven by VCU Health and a growing network of outpatient clinics. Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake) is the third-strongest market, anchored by Sentara Healthcare and military-affiliated medical facilities.
How to find ot visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters occupational therapy roles specifically by visa sponsorship willingness, saving you the work of screening out employers who won't support international candidates. For Virginia OT roles, browse by state on Migrate Mate and filter for H-1B or green card sponsorship. Prioritizing large health system postings (Inova, Sentara, VCU Health) tends to yield the most reliable sponsorship outcomes for OTs.
Are there state-specific considerations for OTs seeking sponsorship in Virginia?
Virginia requires OTs to hold an active state license from the Virginia Board of Medicine before practicing independently. International candidates must have their foreign credentials evaluated and pass the NBCOT exam to qualify for licensure. Virginia's Department of Health Professions processes licensure applications, and employers typically expect candidates to have licensure in hand or actively in process before finalizing a sponsorship petition.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ot jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
