Which companies sponsor visas for OTs in New Jersey?
Large health systems are the most consistent sponsors. RWJBarnabas Health, Hackensack Meridian Health, Atlantic Health System, and Virtua Health have all sponsored occupational therapists. Pediatric specialty practices, inpatient rehabilitation centers, and skilled nursing facility chains like Genesis Healthcare also sponsor OTs in New Jersey, particularly when recruiting for hard-to-fill specialties.
Which visa types are most common for OT roles in New Jersey?
The H-1B visa is the most widely used visa for occupational therapists in New Jersey. OT qualifies as a specialty occupation because the role requires at minimum a master's degree from an accredited program. Some employers also sponsor permanent residence through EB-3. Canadian and Mexican OTs may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA, which does not require lottery selection.
How to find ot visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find OT roles in New Jersey where employers have confirmed willingness to sponsor. You can narrow results by setting, such as pediatrics, acute care, or home health, and target the New Jersey metro areas where hiring is most active. It saves time compared to filtering generic boards manually.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most OT sponsorship jobs?
Newark and its surrounding Essex County area has the highest concentration of OT openings tied to major hospital systems. New Brunswick benefits from proximity to RWJBarnabas and academic medical institutions. Hackensack, Morristown, and Cherry Hill also generate consistent OT demand. School district positions with sponsorship tend to appear across Bergen, Middlesex, and Camden counties throughout the hiring cycle.
Are there state-specific considerations for OTs seeking sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey requires OTs to hold a state license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Occupational Therapy. International applicants must have their foreign credentials evaluated and typically need to pass the NBCOT exam before licensure. Many employers require licensure before a start date, so coordinating the licensure timeline with visa processing is important. The state's high population density supports strong and ongoing demand across multiple care settings.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ot jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
