Which companies sponsor visas for OTs in California?
Large health systems are the most consistent sponsors for occupational therapists in California. Kaiser Permanente, Dignity Health, Sutter Health, UCSF Health, and Cedars-Sinai have all filed H-1B visa petitions for OT roles. Pediatric specialty clinics, skilled nursing facilities, and school districts also sponsor, though at lower volumes. Sponsorship willingness varies by facility size and current staffing needs.
Which visa types are most common for OT roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa for occupational therapists in California, as OT qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree. The EB-3 immigrant visa is also widely used for OTs pursuing permanent residence through employer sponsorship. Some internationally trained OTs initially enter on TN visas if they are Canadian or Mexican citizens, provided they meet NBCOT certification requirements.
How to find ot visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers looking for visa sponsorship roles, including OT positions across California. You can filter by state and role to see verified sponsoring employers in cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, and Sacramento. Using a platform focused on sponsorship saves time compared to sifting through general job postings where sponsorship status is often unclear.
Which cities in California have the most OT sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles has the highest concentration of OT sponsorship opportunities, driven by its large hospital networks and rehabilitation centers. San Francisco and the broader Bay Area offer roles within academic medical centers like UCSF. San Diego has steady demand through VA San Diego Healthcare System and pediatric clinics. Sacramento is an emerging hub as Sutter Health and UC Davis Health expand their rehabilitation services.
Are there state-specific considerations for OTs seeking sponsorship in California?
California requires OTs to hold an active license from the California Board of Occupational Therapy before practicing, so international applicants should factor in licensing timelines alongside visa processing. NBCOT certification is a prerequisite for California licensure. California's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B roles are enforced strictly, and the state's high cost of living influences how employers structure compensation packages for sponsored hires.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ot jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
