Which companies sponsor visas for OTs in Alabama?
UAB Medicine, Encompass Health (headquartered in Birmingham), Ascension St. Vincent's, and Kindred Healthcare are among the larger employers in Alabama that have sponsored work visas for occupational therapists. Encompass Health operates numerous inpatient rehabilitation facilities across the state and has a documented history of H-1B filings for therapy roles. School systems and home health agencies also sponsor, though less frequently than hospital systems.
Which visa types are most common for OT roles in Alabama?
The H-1B is the most common visa for occupational therapists in Alabama, as OT qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree under current NBCOT and state licensure standards. Some internationally trained OTs also enter on TN visas if they are Canadian or Mexican nationals. EB-3 immigrant visas are another pathway, particularly for employers willing to sponsor permanent residency through PERM labor certification.
Which cities in Alabama have the most OT sponsorship jobs?
Birmingham has the highest concentration of OT sponsorship opportunities, driven by UAB Medicine, Children's of Alabama, and the Encompass Health corporate footprint. Huntsville is a secondary hub with growing healthcare infrastructure tied to its expanding population. Mobile supports OT hiring through Infirmary Health and USA Health. Rural areas across central and southern Alabama often have unfilled OT positions, making sponsorship more common as employers compete for qualified candidates.
How to find ot visa sponsorship jobs in Alabama?
Migrate Mate filters OT job listings in Alabama specifically to roles where employers have indicated visa sponsorship availability, saving you from manually screening hundreds of postings. Because OT sponsorship in Alabama is concentrated among hospital systems and rehabilitation networks rather than spread evenly across all employer types, using Migrate Mate to target those specific employer categories in Birmingham, Huntsville, and Mobile will give you the most relevant results efficiently.
Are there state-specific considerations for internationally trained OTs seeking jobs in Alabama?
Alabama requires occupational therapists to hold a license issued by the Alabama Board of Occupational Therapy. International graduates must have their credentials evaluated for equivalency, typically through a NBCOT-recognized evaluation service, before the state board will process a licensure application. Employers generally require proof of licensure eligibility before initiating H-1B sponsorship, so beginning the credential evaluation process early is important. UAB and Alabama's university hospital pipeline also produce locally trained OTs, meaning competition for sponsored roles is real.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ot jobs in Alabama?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
