Which companies sponsor visas for OTs in Texas?
Large health systems are the most active sponsors for occupational therapists in Texas. Houston Methodist, Baylor Scott & White, UT Health, Texas Health Resources, and CHRISTUS Health have all sponsored OT roles in recent years. Outpatient rehabilitation networks and long-term care operators also sponsor, though the process is more common at larger hospital systems with dedicated HR and legal resources to manage H-1B petitions.
Which visa types are most common for OT roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most widely used visa for occupational therapists in Texas, as OT qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree under current APTA and ACOTE standards. The EB-3 immigrant visa is also pursued by some Texas employers for permanent sponsorship. International OTs from Australia may qualify for the E-3, and Canadian or Mexican OTs may use TN status, which does not require a petition or lottery.
Which cities in Texas have the most OT sponsorship jobs?
Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth account for the largest share of OT sponsorship openings in Texas, given the concentration of major hospital systems and rehabilitation networks in both metros. San Antonio and Austin are secondary hubs, with growing demand tied to population growth and expanding health infrastructure. Rural and border regions also post sponsored OT roles periodically, particularly through federally qualified health centers and state-designated shortage area programs.
How to find ot visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters OT roles in Texas by visa sponsorship status, so you're not sorting through listings from employers who won't sponsor. Search the Texas OT category on Migrate Mate to see current openings at health systems and rehabilitation providers. Filtering by sponsorship upfront saves significant time compared to applying broadly and discovering late in the process that an employer cannot support an H-1B or other work visa.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for OTs seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas requires OTs to hold a state license from the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners before practicing, and most employers require licensure before or shortly after the start date. International graduates must also have their credentials evaluated and pass the NBCOT exam. The Texas OT workforce shortage in rural counties means some employers in those areas are more motivated to support sponsorship, including H-1B petitions, than urban competitors with larger local applicant pools.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ot jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
