Which companies sponsor visas for OTs in Connecticut?
Yale New Haven Health, Hartford HealthCare, Trinity Health Of New England, and the Hospital for Special Care are among the larger Connecticut employers with established HR and immigration processes for sponsoring occupational therapists. School districts and contract therapy staffing organizations also sponsor OTs, particularly for shortage areas in special education settings across the state.
Which visa types are most common for OT roles in Connecticut?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for occupational therapists in Connecticut, as OT qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree. The EB-3 immigrant visa is a common longer-term pathway, often initiated after H-1B approval. Some internationally trained OTs also enter on TN visas if they are Canadian or Mexican nationals, provided they hold the required credentials.
How to find ot visa sponsorship jobs in Connecticut?
Migrate Mate filters occupational therapy jobs specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you can browse Connecticut OT openings without sorting through roles that won't support your work authorization. Given that sponsoring an OT requires NBCOT certification and state licensure, Migrate Mate's listings help you identify employers already familiar with the credentialing and immigration process for internationally trained therapists.
Which cities in Connecticut have the most OT sponsorship jobs?
Hartford and New Haven have the highest concentration of OT sponsorship opportunities, anchored by major hospital systems and academic medical centers. Bridgeport and Stamford also see consistent demand, particularly in outpatient rehabilitation and pediatric settings. Suburban school districts across Fairfield and Hartford counties regularly recruit OTs for special education caseloads, where shortages have made sponsorship more common.
Are there any state-specific considerations for internationally trained OTs seeking work in Connecticut?
Connecticut requires occupational therapists to hold a state license issued by the Department of Public Health before practicing. International graduates must pass the NBCOT certification exam first, and credential evaluation may be required if the degree was earned outside the U.S. Some employers initiate sponsorship only after licensure is confirmed, so completing Connecticut's licensing process early is a practical priority for international candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ot jobs in Connecticut?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
